    Wearing the colours

Rob Walls made the observation last night that more Swans fans wear the team colours at games than any other club. After watching the recording of Sunday's game, I can see why he says that. The red-and-white masses in the crowd looked stunning.

Mark Maclure made the same observation a few weeks ago after the Hawthorn game. Red is such a colour that it stands out and it does look fantastic. When the club started giving out the caps it was terrific to look along the Brewongle and see a sea of red.

Old Robbie was right this time. It looked fantastic.
And he named Roos as his hero of the week. (His villain was also very funny - the cameraman who caught Ratten having a scratch).
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Watching the replay I thought it looked absolutely fantastic. Red does stand out in a crowd, and I hope that on Saturday it will be another sea of red and white in Melbourne. For once I agree with Walls, we certainly love to get our colours out and it does stand out. Just look at the 2005 grand final pic- all you can see is the red and the white in the crowd, it really does stand out.

Lets hope the caps are red again this year. The ones that were mostly white one year totally flattened the Red Sea, lost all crowd brilliance. Must admit I do like wearing red. Just imagine if you were a Hawthorne supporter! ick.

Have always thought the same. The Mrs pointed out that just about everyone has something that is either red or white in their wardrobe. We have very easy colours to wear!

Can only imagine that when Hawthorn was being formed and they were thinking colours it was a director who looked into the Doulton after a night on the scotch and said yeah that'll do.

Just bought me a spanking new jumper too. Got a lot of numbers i'd like to put on it, 14 for my old footy number ( and the two glorious captains who wore it), and just about half of the current side. Probably gonna be Kieran Jack though

Ha - yeah, I missed that if it was on the big screen at the game and just saw it for the first time watching it at home last night. I yelled to my partner upstairs, "good gawd! Ratts was just fondling himself on nationwide television!"
Not one of the candidates that would come to mind were I to choose to see such an act.

Re: the caps, yeah, I much much much prefer them when red's the dominant colour. Red blazes out great in the stands (and on mass transit, etc). Too much white and I feel more like a wanna-be golfer.

For what it's worth, the sea of red and white was one of the factors leading to me embracing the code. Travelling to the ground on a Goulburn St bus on a rainy day in 1997 seeing everyone wearing red and white is a really powerful memory for me. It's great to see our fans embrace our colours.
