interesting article from carlton assistant coach

    Stop means red for Dogs

interesting article given its coming from Carlton coach straight after we played them. I think he captured quite well some of the strengths (and weaknesses) of our team.

That's a very good analysis of the two teams' strengths and weaknesses. I am most nervous about teams, like Melbourne, who spread and move the ball quickly. The Doggies can certainly do this, so we have to be on our toes and on our men. If we can hold them in this area and force turnovers, I'll feel much more confident.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

great analysis of our team and the way we play

However i think the footy analysis tends to have a time lag in responding to the way teams play. We are now a quicker side than we have been for years both in our ball movement as well as our leg speed, we also dont have as many stoppages as we have had in previous years (cant be bothered looking it up). I think a lot of melbourne media personalities that talk about the swans are stuck in a 2005-06 mind frame and havnt noticed the change in game style that has occured in the past few years.

Regardless very interesting considered article on of the best pieces i have read in a while

A huge difference in quality between that article and what Brett Allison wrote last week.

Bomber is a sharp chap (and a good Claremont boy!).

It was staggering to me watching the replay how many scoring opportunities we generated from boundary throw-ins to the left of screen end. Hanners had two good chances that he fluffed, but the next time he drew his man further out and Shaw cleverly got in close for the brilliant hands out from Mummy. And to show they weren't one-trick ponies, Mummy went over the back with a hit-out and Jack brilliantly hand-balled out to Bevan who hit it beautifully from about 45m. Amazing stuff!

Given the way that Goodesy had kicked into space in that pocket in the Lions game, it may be that the boundary throw-in from the pocket is considered a great scoring option if the forward line gets clogged.

Mummies battle with Hudson could well be the key to the game.

Hudson played very well last time and was probably their best player. Didn't help them much. He also probably had the better of Jolly last week.

Last week we didn't get the same value out of our big men that the Blues did. There seemed to be too many times when they were taking the mark off our kick in and their midfield stole too many of Mike's taps or their ruckmen tapped straight to someone who was too often Judd.

We've now had both sides of the story - we win if we dominate the stoppages and they tend to lose when they are stopped from their running game. It's both more enjoyable and more nerve wracking that we play less closely and more attacking than during our lockdown days.

That'll be a cracker contest but the key will be the midfield as well as the ruck. Whoever wins the contested ball will win the game. That's where the Bulldogs have been weak and we've been strong in the past month.

I admire the way the Swans just get on with it. They focus more on who's in, not who's out.

Great article. Just about the only thing I disagree with is the prediction...I see us winning by more than that, closer to 4-5 goals than 2.
