Goodbye Roosy and Kirky - Thanks for the memories

For Kirk the battle in the ealy day to cement a place on the playing roster, and then transform himself into one of the premier taggers in the competition, while still picking up his own share of possesions and leader of the Swans embodies everything that I have come to admire about the culture of SMFC/Sydney.
Roos delivering the first Premiership to the Harbour City, and ending a 72 year drought for SMFC/Sydney, and developing the Swans into one of the most consistant sides of the decade speaks volumes for not only his coaching, but how he can see the weaknesses in the club and go about building them to be the strengths.

My best Kirky memory will be his interview on Sunday after the 2005 GF. I think it was Lakes Oval???. Rather his attempt to speak.

However he retires with a premiership as a player.

I never cared about any sport til I was readying to move to Australia and in '05 saw the Swans on tv, and AFL captured my heart. All I've known has been the Roos years, with Kirky the heart & soul of the team. Used to be "why would I care about people kicking/batting/tossing/bouncing a ball around a field? sports are dull", and now here I am, teary-eyed all morning every time I recall the sight of Goodes & O'Keefe carrying Kirk off field, and the shots of Roos walking all alone in the team rooms ...

thank you for making my first five years as a Swanoholic so magical, Coach and Cap'n. This recovering-Yank convert will treasure this era forever.

We have been blessed to have two inspirational leaders at our club at the same time. They have given us so much and shaped the Swans into the best club in AFL.

We had wet eyes after the game last night, you will both be missed so much but your legacy is lasting. Well done and good luck with your futures.

Kirky once gave me one of his smiles, full watt. I have never recovered.
I don't want him to go. I want him near.
Roosy, I just thank for being here when we needed him. He lifted the players, lifted the standards, lifted our enjoyment of our game, and reestablished pride. His forsight has everything ticking along, and I welcome Horse.

Almost every year Paul Roos was hounded about his coaching and the type of style his team played. Every year, including this one, he proved that his style is the best way, bar none. I doubt that the team will every play that selfless one on one style with as much comittment as they have under the Paul Roos era. I thank you Roosy for having the courage to stand by your methods. Thank you for winning NSW's first flag. You have been enormous for footy in this state and I will miss knowing the team will make the finals regardless of our cattle. Thank you Kirky for being a blood for every second of every game, you are a champion, that is all I need to say about you.

Yep, all the best to 2 legends of our club! To see kirky walking off the ground last night put a lump in my throat, an out and out legend. Im very proud of the team this year and as great as it would of been to get over the line last night, I fear we would of got smashed next week because you could tell we just had nothing left in the tank. Well done swannies, come back bigger and better next year!

Farewell to one of the most courageous captains ever seen in any sporting code anywhere. A legend in his own right, he made so much of his career on the back of hard work and graft, especially considering he was never the most talented player. Would have loved you to get a more appropriate finish to your career, but Kirky will always be fondly remembered for what he bought to the club, both on and off the field. Enjoy retirement Kirky for we will miss you!

And Roosy- not only a classy player, but a top coach as well. You are part of fokelore now for breaking that Premiership Drought, and will never be forgotten.

Roosy left the ground whilst Kirk was being interviewed on the ground. A farily sombre looking man.
We cheered him off the ground.

As Kirk was chaired off the ground, he pulled at his jumper, as he's done in the past, saying he loved the club.
We held our scarves high so he could see the colours.

It was worth staying after the game to catch a last glimpse of the MAN!!

We are going to have a flat spot that's for sure. If only he wasn't such a sunshine presence! that is going to be the difference.

Hope someone (Andrew Ireland??) has the presence of mind to latch onto his talents as a human being. I am sure something is in train, he is a natural teacher.
