    Captains - 1, 2, 3?

I know it is still early days, however...

Captain Kirk retires, which leaves C. Bolton and A. Goodes as captains if all things remain as they are, but what are your thoughts on the structure and do you think that Longmire will change it?

I have always liked the idea of only having one captain of a football club. I don't mind how many vice, or deputy-vice captains a team has, but I like just having the one at the top.

In an ideal world I would love to see Adam Goodes get the sole role as captain of the Swans and with the added responsibility step his game up to a consistent output each week. But he is also the type of bloke that wears his heart of his sleeve, so I worry a little bit that if his personal performance drops will he go missing in terms of a captain's presence on the field.

Kirk was either positive or angry when things went against us, Goodes tends to get dejected at times - but maybe that could change.

Also who should choose the captain/s - the coach or the players? Will this be an area that Longmire uses to stamp his authority, or will he continue the ideal of player empowerment?

I think we should choose the captains.

If I got to vote ....

    Goodesy - Captain
    B2 - Vice
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

I personally prefer only having 1 proper captain. And even though we've had the 3 captain system for a while I considered Kirk our "real" captain. Now we may have 2 or 3 captains but I'll consider Goodes the "real" captain. But at the same time we shouldn't completely drop the system cold turkey. It would be insulting to Bolton to demote him or fire him as Captain, it should be phased out with their retirements and then Kieran Jack (or who ever it ends up being) should be the sole captain from then on.

        Feelings.

        Who bought "feelings" into it?

They should change one captain; one vice (no Ben Cousins jokes please). What's the purpose of three? Why not have four.
Why not make the whole leadership group co-captains.

If the club says one captain ... if B2 was a true club man, he'd insist on the dual brownlow medalist taking the captaincy.

I prefer the one Captain, 2-3 Vice Catain model. Going forward I would leave Goodes and CBolton Captains until they retire, select a couple of new Vice Captains.

If he continues in is current form and attitude I reckon Jack is next in line and with another three years under his belt Hannebery.

Will be interesting to see what develops.

If there's going to be one captain, Craig Bolton for sure. Your most brilliant player doesn't need the distractions created by the responsibilities of captaincy. See, for example, Gary Ablett sr (and jr for that matter).

A fair few coming through who can take up the reins in due course. McVeigh, Jack, Hannebery, Bird. Is Mumford foreman material as well?

I prefer one captain, one vice, but would stay with two co-captains ftb, and revisit the question when one of them steps down.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Goodes and Bolton will serve Swans well as co-captains in 2011 and although I don't think a third is required, if pushed I'd say Macca.

In comparison to many of the comments above I like the idea of two captains marshalling the troops more than a single captain.

craig bolton playing next year? even if he does might step aside. It seems to be something that has worked for the club having 3 skippers but i prefer one. Id like to see Jude Bolton captain the club
