    AFL - the chief scalpers?

I know Roy Masters is an AFL-hating League tragic, but I wonder whether his piece rings a bell with people chasing tickets and/or breaking the budget to get to the GF.

As AFL rebrands grand final seats, it could be accused of scalping its own tickets
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Goes without saying the GF is more and more geared to the corporate types as the years go on, all this is inline with the AFL more concerned with promoting the corporate image of the game (and therefore attracting the TV revenue etc), than the fans

I agree with the premise of the article. I think there should be a doubling of the allocation to the competing clubs. Members who have supported their team all year, usually for many years, deserve GF tickets more than anyone else. Next time the Swans are in one, I would be inconsolably devastated if I couldnt get a ticket.

The other day there was discussion on radio about ticket allocations and the 1,000 that goes to each club to sell as packages so they get their $1m each year through this. One was suggestion was factor in a price rise on each ticket to the general public which becomes in effect a club levy with that money going to the clubs so they still get their $1m that would through packages currently, and then reallocate those 16,000 tickets to members of the competing clubs.

I think this makes too much sense for the AFL to entertain, but it would be great to see.

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Roy Masters clearly doesn't understand the meaning of the word "scalping". Sure, more GF tix should go to regular fans at affordable prices, and fewer as part of outrageously-priced corporate entertainment packages. But we don't need a half-witted rugby league shill to work that out.

I would expect that the regular members will get a lot greater share of next week's tickets. (no Tixs on sale)

Apparently tickets will be $270 each. The AFL will pick up a nice 27 million dollars.

Minus the cost of ground hire every year since they entered into agreement with Victorian Cricket to split the MCG. Every year the MCG is booked by the AFL for the week after the grand Final as a contingency plan, and I can't imagine that's cheap.
