I can't argue with any side that has clearly had that much thought go into it. Well done.

As I read it though I did tend to wonder about the anti-22 though. Worst (or least gifted if you prefer) Swans 22. I doubt you could set 80 games as minimum as many would fail to qualify. Thoughts?

In a (very) bored moment I had a glance at the other fan forum and saw that they had started a thread on this.... It didn't make for great reading I have to say and I fairly quickly found myself playing Minesweeper as a preferable time killer..

I would have thought both Ball and Jolly are better choices here. I reckon Stafford would even agree with me.

Lewis and Murphy the unlucky two but who would you drop?

Speaking on Murphy how is his son going on the scholarship program with the saints. I can't believe the saints got him wouldn't the prospects of a future father/son selection override a scholarship program.

Just think of all the son's of our former champions the other teams could try and sign up on scolarship programs if they still lived in NSW

I know it's cruel....BUT....Chambers and Bomford....can't think of any other standouts. I think the criteria would be..."played more than a couple of games....was sh**********te!"

Greg Smith was a very tough and honest player for Sydney:
96 Games and 64 Goals - he was also called "The Bionic Man" for playing with a broken collarbone or something like that.

Still, he wouldnt be in your side Donners - just remember him being a pretty good player.

Of our current players (not mentioned already) I reckon eventually Hannebery will make the team - dunno who will go out though - maybe Barry Mitchell.

I remember Greg Smith, I think it was Lou Richards commentating and calling him either 'the bionic man' or 'the iron man' or something like that because I think he dislocated both shoulders, had them both popped back in, strapped and came back on and dominated the game.

No problem with this team, I would have Mark Bayes starting though, the man was an absolute champion, never ever saw him get beaten by his opponent. I would find a place for David Murphy too.....yes he was THAT good. And I'm not sure about Stafford as starting ruckman, that would have to go to either Ball or Jolly me thinks.

Perhaps somebody needs to put in a word for Barry Mitchell. He wasn't super-fast or stylish, but very smart and a hard worker. I also remember him as a great last quarter player. Even when he had been quiet all day, if things got tight he was one of those who would always lift.

I'm not as enthusiastic about Mark Bayes as Johnno obviously is. He had tremendous skills, but became a changed player about being thumped from behind by Craig Kelly one day at Victoria Park. From then on he became field-shy and not half the player he had been.

However, I agree with him about David Murphy ... one of our bravest players ever and an absolute excitement machine.

I agree with Johnno on Bayes.

A lot of Swans fans jumped on board from '96 and that is there memory of Bayes, who was just a shadow of the player he was.

But he was an absolute shining light in a cocoon of darkness which descended upon the club post-Edelstein pre-Eade. Definitely needs to be found a place in the starting 18.

That said, old blood speaks the truth. I wouldn't say he became totally field-shy, but he did taper off.
Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09

I started going to the footy in 1993. Every Swans supporter at the time loved Baysey. As a young kid, I used to stir the old man by saying he was overrated but even at that age, I realised that he was a gun.

Ask Kernahan what he thinks of Bayes. Bayes used to blitz him. Chris Grant was one of the few who had his measure.

What a shame Jamie Lawson got injured and couldn't play on... I bet he would have made the list if he had. I know, a little left field...

I agree with this. Lawson was turning into something remarkable when he was cut down. People look at the Daveys, C Rioli etc as a recent phenomenon but Lawson was rapidly becoming that sort of player 15 years earlier. He was so exciting to watch. I love Lewis Jetta, and he's the closest thing we've had since, but I reckon little Lawson would have left him coughing in the dust. Mind you, speed isn't everything and I think Lewis has the potential to be a more complete player.
My opinion is objective truth in its purest form
