Defenders 2011: Who Will be in the Best 22?

    Out of these players:
    C Bolton
    H Grundy
    C Heath
    T Kennelly
    N Malceski
    M Mattner
    T Richards
    L Roberts-Thompson
    R Shaw
    N Smith
    A Everitt

    Who is your best 6?

    Mine would be:

    N Smith | L R-T | C Bolton
    T Kennelly | H Grundy | N Malceski

With such a surplus in stocks I fail to see why we've taken an interest in more halfbacks and defenders this trade week....

Don't knwo how many times this has been said but there is no doubt that the extra defensive stocks will allow us to push the likes of Shaw, Malceski and even Kennelly up the ground.

In reality therefore, our back 6 will be:-

    Smith Bolton Mattner/ Shaw (rotate)
    Kennelly/ Everitt (rotate) Grundy LRT
    Sanford Wheeler 4 President!

If that happens, who are you going to drop to make way for them further up the field? Bolton, Okeefe, McVeigh, McGlynn, Jack, Hanners, Jetta, Kennedy or Bird? I know the answer already, play the surplus mids up forward. Then we have a problem with TDL, Moore, Rohan and somehow Goodes and Bradshaw, and maybe White will be in the mix too. Oh and there are Seaby and Mumford and perhaps Pyke to be squeezed in.

What great problems to have. On a sidenote, most people here keep picking B2 in their line-up for next year. He isn't back yet, regardless of (spin and spin-doctors). I am yet to be convinced that B2 will return and if he does that he will be back to his old self. He'll try, I believe that, but he may not be able to. It will be a pity but something that may need to be factored in.

Doubts about B2 and LRT may help explain the Everitt decision. It also suggests that the club is looking to Sam Reid as a key forward rather than defender.

Primmy is probably right when she says that Reid looks a natural key defender, but it seems to me that key forwards are harder to find and that he should be tried out there first. If we're going to go beyond being a 5th to 8th team, key forwards are critical. If you add Reid to White, Johnston and Rohan as potential key forwards after Bradshaw and Goodes are gone, we've got some good prospects.

It only takes two of those four to make it and we're in business.
