    Dual Membership anyone?

I am a long time Swans member with season tickets in the Brewongle at SCG. Originally I was a Fitzroy fan before moving to Sydney in 1996 which coincided with the hostile take over by Brisbane. I soon become a Swans member and fan, although I always had a soft spot for the Swans having spent a good chunck of my childhood in Sydney.

I also bought a 3 game membership to watch the Kangaroos in their failed mission in 1999, which included 1 Swans away game at the SCG. I can rember sitting in the almost empty SCG one Saturday night watching the Roos (who I have a distinct dislike for) kill the Tigers.

I guess what I am saying is that I am a Swans fan first and foremost, but also an utter footy nut.

I confess I am looking forward to the Giants coming into the league, and I will definately be buying a membership and season tickets. No doubt over the course of time I will develop a fimiliarity with the Giants and they will become my second club.

Should I feel any guilt for being a dual member. Or should I just be rapt to watch AFL standard footy in my home town 19 times per year plus finals (Giants to play 3 home games at Manuka)?

Good for you Cujo. I'm also looking forward to more live AFL and my hope is that both NSW clubs are enormously successful. Nothing wrong with being a member of both clubs either and don't let anyone tell you any different. I'm a member of the Swans and an NRL club and I don't feel guilty about supporting another code and team.

I'm a member of the Swans and the mighty Dragons in the NRL . For a moment I thought this was a dual membership for the swans question- I'm thinking about getting a Melbourne membership to go alongside my Sydney based membership (As I go to just as many games down there almost).

But yeh, there is nothing wrong with being a footy nut- I'm not sure I'd become a member of the Giants anytime soon, but I love getting to games evne if they don't involve the swans- I usually like to make a footy weekend of it when I go to melbourne and catch another game or two while I'm there.

I'm hoping the AFL come to the party and and create a membership similar to AFL membership in Melbourne where you can nominate the Swans (or Giants) as your preferred team, but can attend all games in an AFL members section. Obviously you could also attend Swans games interstate as well.

Not holding my breath, but it would be nice.

As for you RM, good on you. There are a lot that think the same way as you (and me) about the Giants, but not surprisingly, this is a Swans fansite so popular opinion is naturally always going to be a bit more hostile toward them than maybe mainstream sports fans.

          I also follow two teams.

          1 The Swannies

          2 The Swannies Reserves.

Definitely Chuckie, I am with you all the way.

HOWever, I do know other Swans members are going for the dual membership, because we have at times been starved of games and everyone wants the option of more being played here in Sydney.

I mean the Victorian club members can sneak off to another game anytime they want, not just their own teams, so I can definitely see why a dual membership would be appealing to a Sydneysider...... BUT no I could not do it. I would definitely go to the GWS games, but not as a member......as chuckie said, Swans, and Swans Reserves for me.

I wish them well but won't be joining up as a member. I want them to succeed as a club for the good of the game, and certainly won't be bearing them any ill will, except when we play them, but I'm happy for them to run second to us every year.

I hope they succeed, so I can actually hate them and not feel sorry for them!, but personally wont be giving them much of my money except when they host us in Sydney.

I love footy, so I'd be open to seeing a few of their 7 home games in Sydney too, but I'll do that on a casual basis, I don't want to inflate their membership numbers.

Anyone can do what they want and there is nothing wrong with loving the swans but wanting access to a lot more live footy, but I would say that unless you intend on going the long haul membership wise, don't bother. I want them to succeed, but not because spin and not because of the die hard Swans people already committed to the code (and our club) in Sydney.

I could never be a member of the Swans AND another AFL club. However, being a member of two clubs in different codes is a completely different thing.

I may be wrong but I think they are playing 8 home games in Sydney plus 3 at Canberra. One of those 8 would be against the Swans. So it will be a matter of economics as to whether it is worth getting a membership to see the other 7. Generally it is the best value, plus you get guaranteed the same seats of your choice.

Your thread is obviously an exercise in thinking out loud.

Whatever you may feel right now about having dual memberships, the situation you describe - long-standing Swans member deciding to join the Giants - is exactly the sort of thing the club is worried about.

Who knows what the future may hold, and what further unforseen pressures your loyalty to the Swans might come under?

                        Good one Chuckie. Same here.

I don't care how many memberships people have or don't have. I just follow the Swans because I like them. I'm not a football tragic, but can appreciate the passion of those that are. I just don't like the AFL big business machine. While it's fun to poke fun at the Jaffa G-Strings, that's all it is - fun. I won't be going to their games unless they play us, but that is because fortunately for me the Reserves play in Canberra and I can get to their games easily. With that and the seniors on TV, or the odd trek to Sydney, that's enough football for me. When I do watch other games on TV it's to work out what threats they pose to us and how to beat them. Quite happy for people to have dual, triple, quadruple memberships.

Just get an AFL membership and have Swans support. You can then get the best of both worlds and eventually go to GF's whether your team is in them or not. I have been a full AFL member since 2005. best decision I ever made.

Big Al, everyone knows you're into cross dressing as well.

BTW, the cross you wore to the Club Champion Dinner with the gold diamontees was magnificent.

Why anyone would want to support an opposition team ( FINANCIALLY ) simply astounds me.
