Which List do you better is the superior?

I think Nov 2010 is the better list because we have managed somehow to pick up at least 3 talented youngsters. Spanger might just turn out alright too. I always thought Playfair a bad investment because of his history with injury & I think Spanger is a better bet, younger, more maliable & versatile. Last year we picked some great talent but we had a few that were just not up to it & I think with the new list there are fewer players in that scenario. Kirkie retiring is going to be hard to handle for many of the fans as he epitomises the spirit of the club but as he said the time had come as he was getting too old & slow. We have drafted really well in this environment of the new Gold Coast team.

Kirk offered little playing value this year, so I think the 4 ins skill wise are a huge bonus.

Hopefully the big difference will come from the natural improvement of the younger guys on the list with senior experience (i.e. Rohan, Jetta, TDL, Hanners, Jack etc.). Plus Seaby will be back and there's no reason why the big Canadian won't keep improving

Kirk is our only significant loss and even then his output for 2010 was down on previous seasons. It will also be interesting to see how Braddy's body holds up.

The big unknown is the change over in the coaches box. Who knows how that will affect the side

I disagree, Kirk offered plenty as a player. On many occasions he did some great stopping roles (on field leadership also did a fair bit for how they team played). He played every game.
The 4 in's combined may not play every game this year.

Kirk was definitley worth last years efforts. If he wasn't there, we wouldn't have made it as far as the Dogs IMHO his leadership for a young side was invaluable at crucial times (smackings by Melbourne, Losses to Hawthorn, Richmond etc).

I was wondering if anyone else was thinking this....

Of course Kirk's leadership will be missed, and he is, imaginably, a huge loss for the spirit of the cub, but in terms of playing ability I'm guessing there are younger players who would add a lot more skill and effectiveness to the side. Is there any truth to this notion or am I just destined for swans hell?

In the dying moments of that Richmond game Kirks opponent ran off him, way too easily, and set up either the winning goal or the one just before that. It was after that I started the thread One year too long. I believed it then and I still do now.

agree to disagree, we shouldn't have been in that situation after leading all day.

His games against North were standouts, and his game against Carlton was great. I don't think we lost anything having him out there. No one was held out in his position that could have done better all year IMHO.

There are and have always been better players than Kirk, but none tried harder to win every match they played. Sure he may have had poor moments but that probably just fueled his desire to better himself.
I don't believe we would have done any better by not playinng Cap'n in 2010.

He did have some decent games, but was no where near his best. May have played one year too many, but given the outs from last year, his mentoring and guidance was probably more useful than any of us would imagine.

However, given the extrmeme lack of votes he received in the TLM this year, I'm not alone in my thinking.

It's not about being BOG though. I think that his approach to football, his dedication to get the best out of himself and fire will made him more than servicable on the field last year, but it's the example he sets in the locker-room and training track that merits his staying around for 2010. If the new kids coming through gleaned anything off Kirk this year in how they should approach the game, the contest, their shortcomings, then they will only be better for it.

Kirk performed some very important tagging roles in 2010 that would have gone unrecognised in the TLM. He still finished in the top 10 of the BSM. It is not clear who - if anyone - is going to step up in 2011 and quell the influence of the Simon Blacks, Andrew Swallows and Samuel Mitchells of this world.
