Bulldog Moore directing traffic in 2011 ?

I remember watching one of the games last year against the Lions and Jarred never stops organising the forward line and run of play

his dummy runs in offence and his talk at the break downs was obviously important - shall we say critical in our structures

do we need Jarred to do this?

Can some one else? ie if Jude Bolts is on the field anyway and getting more and more time in the HF line etc cant he do it ?

Are the structures of play delivered in the forward line more important then having another emerging exciting player in the front line ? ie Moore doesnt excite compared some others emerging etc but Jarreds structures a big part of our forward game plan........ doesnt he ??

I've always considered Doggy to be a bit of a battleship. You are right, he is an organiser, and he is a smart thinker. He is a first rate team player who can see the way the play is going a couple of moves ahead. Good bloke to keep an eye on in future to see how his game develops and how his team mates react to his presence.

This defence of moore does make me laugh. i have had the pleasure also of rewatching games of the swans in 2005-6 and you can watch schneider direct players all over the place (and he still does this for st kilda today). But I'm sorry a bloke who gets run off as easily as he does and who manages few tackles and few disposals is going to struggle no matter how good he is at directing traffic (btw which i've noticed stewie maxfield does an even better job)

Moore may well be a fabulous coach but what we actually want is a pretty darn good player. And to date he's just a good average player. He's not even close in my best 22 but if the coaches pick him I'll be cheering him as much as the next fellow.

I watched him at training yesterday.
If he is not to take part in this year's festivities, no-one has told him or the forward line he was marshalling yesterday.
He is very vocal, always where the football is,brings people into the play...as some said, the forward line general. He has the knack of knowing where players around him are at all times, and being able to find them..a rare skill nowadays.
Lack of foot speed didn't hurt Diesel, not that Bulldog is a Williams, but he has similar football smarts.
He may be the best case of a footballer who has to keep straining to be a modern athletic player, as distinct from the fabulous athletes who try to become footballers.
In my best 22 every week. Oh, and by the way, a walk up to coach down the track!

To be a good coach one would hope the criteria would be more than a loud voice and a desire to tell everybody what to do.Just "talking the talk" is not enough.You have to "walk the walk" otherwise you lack credibility with the players and they don't listen to you.Roos was loved because he could do both and was respected. Moore has yet to achieve the player credentials to be a coach regardless of his obvious attempts at controlling the forward line which IMO did not function that well last year. Are the players listening to him? Not in my best 22 on ability but obviously well regarded at the Swans and an intelligent guy.

Sounds like a great guy and a very good footballer. Didn't he win the best and fairest medal for the whole Ressies comp. one year? However, it seems that players like him are being squeezed out of the game the way it has developed. I didn't get to see that many games on TV last season but I remember in one game I saw, Moore's opponent got in front of him and ran off him time and time again. Moore tried to give chase but to no avail. He got very few touches of the ball the whole game. It was sad to see.

The other point is, he may be the general at practice but when the players take the field for a game surely they don't need to be told where they should be running and what they should be doing - if so they shouldn't be out there. If they become dependent on one person to direct them, how are they going to get on when that person is not playing?

So I would have to say, reluctantly that he is not in my best 22, probably best 26. If there is no place for Meredith elsewhere I would like to see him get a game. Rohan for me is potentially too valuable to stick in a forward pocket.
