I was just reading through this article from the Age last week and noticed this little gem:

''The challenge is that no team has been very successful and not bottomed out,'' Carter said. ''We reckon we're in with a chance of being the first to do that.'' The Swans have arguably achieved this feat already, albeit they didn't reach the stratospheric heights of Geelong, circa 2007-10.

You don't need to bottom out but it does help if you pick up early draft picks. It doesn't matter how you get them either by bottoming out or by trading for them ala Dons in late '90's Eagles & Swans later. Early draft picks are imperative but it is also imperative to pick the right player for your set up. I believe Carlton got some great draft picks but have so far failed to turn these into a cohesive unit & therefore maybe have to reassess their set up. We have traded incredibly well over the last three or four years, silently I might add, as well as picking up some good rookies & an overseas import who have impressed.

I know this comes up every now and then, and obviously I'm aware of Tom Mitchell coming to the club next year; but do we have any other promising F/S picks on the horizon?
