One HD dumps AFL shows from its lineup in Sydney

    All,

I know this is a Swans-only forum but i want this to be seen and hence on the "main" forum.

It has become apparent that One HD is now offering different programming in Sydney. Which basically means that the various (some new) AFL shows are being dumped in favour of NRL equivalents. These new NRL shows will obviously rate higher and will therefore not be moved, but if you are like me then you will not be happy to know that at this stage, they are not even offering repeats of the AFL shows (One week at a time, the 5th quarter, before the game and the game plan) on ONE HD in Sydney at any stage of the week.

These things never fix themselves, so if you are keen on making your voice heard then please contact Ten/One HD directly:

    Postal Address:
    GPO BOX 10
    Sydney, NSW 2001

    Ph: (02) 9650 1010
    Fax: (02) 9650 1111

or fill in a complaint form at http://www.freetv.com.au/

It's tough being an AFL fan in Sydney. Even Eddie McGuire was convinced - eventually.

How did you find this out? I've heard them plugging their NRL shows on the radio but I presumed that our games shows would start when our season does.

Won't the AFL One week at a time be shown after the NRL One week at a time? That's what I thought was happening.

Plus - we'll get the same amount of Swans discussion on the NRL version anyway.

Well ordinarily i'd have thought the same but when you have a look at the broadcast times - they are the same as when the AFL versions were aired last year.

I can't see the NRL shows being aired at those times in VIC/SA/WA so you can logically assume that there is now a separate programming regime on One HD depending on where you live - this was not the case before.

That has to be confirmed but i can't find it anywhere.

A bit harsh IMO. One HD always gave us a fair shake i thought.

saw this on the twitter feed at One week at a Time ONEHD One HD

@ahleach @rodders76 the AFL and NRL shows will both be on Monday nights once AFL season starts! In Melb it will be AFL first then NRL.
so i'm assuming it will just be like the footy show up here.... AFTER the league show.

Don't get any more attached to One, it is the stated aim of it's new CEO and major shareholder Lachlan Murdoch that it is to be killed off and very soon. If it lasts the full season this year, it will be a surprise.

It's a competitor to his own Fox Sports and Murdoch would like to return 10 back to it's low cost, young demographic chasing crap to make it profitable again.

Marngrook Footy Show is moving to ABC2.
Honestly, it's the only show worth watching.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Excellent! I've missed it since we lost that channel on FTA.

So I'm trying to muddle though & understand ... will there be no free-to-air live broadcasts of Swans games then this year? I'd hate to have to give in & get cable, given my complete lack of tv-watching time otherwise. I try to hand over as little money as possible in my life to the civilisation-slashing/burning/stomping robber-baron Murdoch empire, though given its sinister all-pervasive reach I know it gets some of my earnings somewhere along the line. If I had to get a Fox sports channel in my home I'd feel kind of ... soiled. But if it's the only way ...

No Yuri Irwin, the FTA games remain untouched.
That's what they paid $780 million for. (Although, don't quote me, I believe not all swans games will be played on FTA in Sydney this year. If you're desperate, check the broadcast guide on the AFL website.)
They're talking about the commentary and review type shows, i.e. On the Couch, etc.

I wouldn't get too carried away.... he is only the CEO for now and has stated he does not want to be thre for long. If they wanted to chase the young demographic then they would also have to axe their 6pm and 6:30pm news shows and go back to showing the Simpsons at 6...

However i wouldnt be suprised if OneHD did get axed as it is running at a loss right now because they show too much rubbish netball.
