He seems to be back to his 07/08 form...Little dinky kicks that rarely come off. Handballs to players under more pressure. He needs to forget the tricks and get his hand dirty, so to speak. Maybe the captaincy is weighing on him. From the outside looking in, he doesn't have that hardness, or assuredness, that all the good captains have. Maybe others like, O'Keefe or Bolton, or Jack or even Hanners, would be more suited.
It's time for a Mcveigh thread

i want to rewatch the others day game if i get the chance, because he was listed in the best and i remember wondering if he had done much during the game. I think he still does a lot of run with work, but i dont know i just expect at his age and with his experience he should be our best player.Theres not much left to say -
He is struggling a little at the minute, but he did work his way into the game in the second half on the weekend. Then again the midfield as a whole has been a little off at times so far in 2011. Jack, Kennedy & Hannebery have all been inconsistent thus far. Thankfully Goodes, Bolton and O'Keefe have been able to pick up the slack.
Even the comps best struggle at times (just look at Goddard's form at the moment, Goodes has occassionally had 3/4 average game periods). McVeigh is too good a player to have a lengthy lean spell. We can expect him to bounce back soon.Comment

Haven't posted for a long time and I don't generally bag players on here but Grundy and McVeigh are absolute disgraces. McVeigh drops off tackles like a fairy and Grundy should sit in the stands if he wants to watch a game of football. They couldn't hit a barn door with a tractor. The decision to make McVeigh captain was poor I thought at the outset and after the last three games it is now looking fairly ridiculous. He had a poor season last year and this is looking worse after only 3 games.
He may well grow into the job, but after all the tough and determined leaders (Kirk, Kelly, Round, Maxfield, Carroll) . . . .LittleMac did seem a strange choice of captain.Comment

Quite possibly the worst captain ive seen named in my life as a swans supoporter, its heart in mouth stuff for me everytime he touches it.When he hit the post from 10 metres out a few in my circle just commented thats classic Macca,he did the same thing at least twice mlast year that we could recall,i dont think its got anything to do with only 3 rounds played and give him a go malarky, the fact is as i see it that he's never had the temprament to be a captain, has always been inconsistent form wise as well.Good serviceable player but never a leader,Rok would of been my choice as co-captain or hell as any other side would maybe make the double brownlow winner a sole captain?I thought Mcveigh was set for big things when he kicked 5 or 6 against the dogs in a losing game at manuka a couple of years ago,his next 4-5 games were woeful.2 things a skipper needs its poise and consistency,Mcveigh shows a little at times but no where near enough.Maybe the fact he was given the spot was horse and co hopeing it would raise his game to another level.Comment

I also stated it was just my opinion not fact,i would never be so up myself to assume my view is the right one on all things footy.Hopefully you dont think the same?Sorry for having an opinion that differed from yours. So poise and consistency arent whats needed in a skipper,i thought you got respect by having those qualities.Comment

I tend to agre with you onballer. A skipper not only has the respect of his peers, but also has the onfield persona to go with it.
McVeigh just isn't showing it ATM. He is no Kelly, or Kirk that's for sure.
A captain is someone you cn generally rely on when things are getting tough to produce the extraordinary, or at least be dependable under pressure.
McVeigh has shown none of this as yet.Comment

You probably right Triple B,its just an opinion ive formed from watching him over the years and chatting to him a couple of times after melb games,i guess you must know him pretty well, thats fair enough but even if hes a top bloke respect surely is earnt by what you do on the field,Mcveigh while a very useful player in my book hasnt even shown anhy leadership qualities on the park.Comment

Why would you think I know him well? Why do I need to even know him at all on a personal basis.
My whole point revolves around I find it hard to believe the club we love would give the captaincy to a bloke who is completely and utterly incapable of showing any of the qualities generally regarded as being the prerequisites of good captaincy. They spend hours upon hours upon hours in each others company just about every day during footy season. Can they get it that wrong??Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

Sorry Triple B i didnt think you needed to know him at all.just thought you might,i really hope he proves me and others wrong, but a fumbling, inconsistent start hasnt helped change my view. But hey im happy to admit i was wrong on Maxfield and he proved me wrong the moment he played a game as skipper,so it wouldnt surprise me if macca steps up,but it would have to be one of the biggest skill and form turnarounds were ever likely to see.Comment
