Best of all worlds. No footy in Melbourne on good friday to satisfy whoever it is they are trying to placate and I'll be able to walk a couple of hundred metres from the flyball over to olympic stadium to watch the game

If people want to make a sacrifice on one day of the year by substituting prawns and barramundi for meat that?s fine but I don?t see why I should have to give up access to the footy because of someone else?s beliefs (particularly when I?m essentially vegetarian).

Well, I think that having a Sydney derby is a great idea! In terms of commercial value and promotion of the game, it's a pretty win situation.

I'm a Roman Catholic myself, and while I probably won't go to the game out of respect for the religion, I won't hold it against people who don't believe in what I believe, and who do go to the game. I mean, everyone is entitled to their own opinions right? It's pretty ignorant to say 'Don't put the game on Good Friday, because it's a religious day of solemnity and fasting for Christians'. Hello? I'm pretty sure that most days in the calendar are religious days in some religion or other. We can't appease everyone so why spoil the fun for others?

For me, I won't watch the game, but the first thing I'll be doing on Saturday morning is finding out the result! We are all united in the Red and White, I think that's what really matters here!

what does a game do that is so anti religion if you want to go to mass fine, some of us would much rather watch footy. If the swans play every good friday great, i am home anyway and its the most boring day of the year.
Theres not much left to say

I think Good Friday should be moved - I'm offended that it's held slap bang in the middle of footy season....

I thought of that irony as well. It is the VFL in expanded form anyway and that is why there are no Good Friday games. Perhaps if the game is held outside of Victoria then it would make it OK. Fact can be stranger than fiction.

So why are shops closed on the Good Friday but all open on Easter Sunday?. Mourn the loss at home and celebrate re-birth by shopping!!!!!

I was at the Western Plains Zoo on Friday. Open everyday except Christmas.

Great idea and gives the AFL an out to their ridiculous stance on not fixturing on Good Friday. I get to decide what I eat on that day and I should be able to decide if I want to watch football. NRL fans get to decide (they actually get two games) without any issue.

As for the Roos, they shouldn't complain, they know damn well it's never going to happen in Melbourne, even when the fair and reasonable arguements are put forward, they are countered by the hosptial telethon (as if a telethon is going to collapse with one game of footy)

This suits the Swans/GWS brilliantly (and more so the Swans), great opportunity to keep winning new fans next year. Pretty clear GWS are going to have a shocker season haha

I am not for a game on good Friday.
There is a reason why it is a public holiday and if you have faith or not that reason should not be ignored.

Since when was the last time that Sydney television have a marathon session for a hospital telethon? 1980's??????

The AFL says no games on Good Friday then over promotes collingwood playing on ANZAC day. Go figure............................................ ..........Does playing it after lunch suppose to make a difference?

So the AFL shouldn't play on any Public Holiday?

Let's cancel all activity on Good Friday then.

Is watching TV allowed on Good Friday? Is going to the Easter Show on Good Friday offensive? I'm just intrigued as to what is and isn't allowed.

Yeah north melbourne should just shut up and be thankful they are still in this competition, the AFL couldnt give a hoot about them, they cant draw crowds (except for when they play the big melbourne clubs where it is mostly their supporters) and I think it would be much more appealing for most people to watch a derby in sydney than a game with north featuring on good friday.

Honestly Bas, I worry about you. Playing AFTER THE ANZAC DAY MARCH AND COMMEMORATIONS are finished......

Bas is making the point that both days are considered very special but the AFL chooses to promote a game on one day and not the other.

It doesn't make any sense to me either.

Not many of the AFL's decisions make sense to me. :-)
