Is Hanners the Paul Williams type we have been looking for

Only from watching on TV the thought just slipped into my head that that Hanners reminded me a bit of Williams or could well turn out to be a player like him, given his youth and the time he could spend at top level, once his delivery by foot is improved and I'd say it has been a bit down this year from last, will he be the running midfielder to fill the rather large gap left when Willo retired?

An interesting question. I'm not sure he has Willo's pace, but other factors - positional sense, good delivery, ability to spot a target quickly - could make up for that. The one who does have the pace is Jetta, but I think he's still getting the hang of where to be.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

The way Luke Parker moved around on the weekend actually reminded me a bit of Willow. Probably not the pace but just his body movement. Hanners reminds me a bit of a left-footed Daniel Kerr.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Last years game agst Hawks in Melb - huge goal from on 50! I thought it's a little blonde willo.
If he develops in the mould of Paul I would be very very happy.

I think the adjustment to the forward press this year and some new players has made it a bit more a challenge to just let rip and play loose as Hannes got to late season 2010

maybe by mid season we will start to see a little bit of a counter to the forward press and the game opens up a little more

The forward press has been used in soccer for many many years so to holding possession the oppositions defensive half...........

So anyone that runs and carries the ball is the next Willo??? Jetta?? Shaw??? Hanners??? Not likely. At least the 1st 2 have a bit of pace. Hanners has nothing near it.
