    Roos Red Carded

Red card for Roos in juniors match

Roos, who runs the Sydney Swans Academy and is a football pundit for Fox Sports, had his name taken, along with the Newtown junior Swans runner Brendan Read, after the pair exchanged heated words.

Go Roosy! Fire up Son. A fired up Roosy would have been nice at Half-time (sorry had to throw that in). Although in saying that our 3rd qtr efforts under the Great Man left a lot to be desired as well.

Now top story on smh.com.au !

Roosy doing his best to promote the game in NSW

I have to say, how awesome would it be if you were 16 years old and playing in that side, to have Paul Roos as your coach?!

          He shouldn't have done that.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

More info here, doesn't sound like he did anything majorly wrong but obviously the AFL doesn't want anyone to run onto field willy-nilly.

I understand it's a difficult situation, and awful to see a kid get walloped- but it's clear that coaches are not to enter the field of play at all in junior footy (unless it's younger age groups when they can be on the field). I'm sure Paul knows that. I understand and support the intent of providing a safe environment, but what's to stop all club officials/supporters attending a junior function also feeling that they need to get on the field to provide a safe environment?

I hope Darcy is feeling better today.

Hopefully it raises awareness about violence at a junior level, I am with Roos on this one. SMH Link

Roos said danger in junior games was not contained to off-the-ball incidents, as he continually saw players get "smashed?? going for the ball. He said he had emailed officials at AFL NSW/ACT urging for players to get better protection from umpires.

He said umpiring practices at AFL games - where the onus is on keeping the ball moving - should not be applied at junior level, where ??those going for the ball are the ones getting hurt??.

Roosy gives a master class in media management. Immediately moved the focus from his behaviour to the dangerous state of junior footy. Clever like a fox, as ever.

Nailed it in one there Kirkari. For those thinking it's a media beatup Roos initiated more than 20 odd media calls on the Monday, the only person beating it up was him.

I've spoken to a few people involved in this incident over the last few days, and reading from a few of Roos own quotes.

                              1. He didn't see an incident out on the ground, only his player on the ground, so he already assumed it was a king hit and not an accident, which it may well have been, and decided to be judge jury and executioner out on the ground. Reminds a bit of the Hall on Chris Grant one at the SCG a few years back.

                              2. He admitted he wasn't aware of protocol. The controlling body has a rule book stating in detail the roles and responsibilities of the coach, it's his responsibility to be aware of those.

                              3. He's hung the opposition club completely out to dry on the basis of an alleged incident by one person. I'm not surprised they are feeling a little aggreived given they don't have access to the soapbox Roos does.
