A dumb question?

Ok this might sound dumb, but me and my father will be in melbourne for round 15 and thought we might go and watch 2 games.

We live in country WA and have no idea on how to get tickets?

we want to see Geelong v Essendon (etihad on saturday night)
and Collingwood v Hawthorn (mcg sunday)

So whats the go with getting tickets? ive tried the ticketek site and its confusing, just redirects me all over the place.

I would like to sit on the first tier on the wing... is that possible?

We are non afl members, just general public.

I think most grounds use Ticketmaster as their agent, which might explain why you are getting confused on Ticketek.

I find it hard to buy wing tickets at many grounds because they are very often taken up with members areas. Certainly at the MCG, most of the wings are either MCG members or AFL members areas. You can generally find tickets deep in pockets, but I personally I would prefer to be behind the goals if I can't sit relatively flush on a wing.

Yeah i sort of thought that getting a wing seat would be hard, so anyway, how do i actually get the tickets? and can i choose where we sit?

If Essendon are still up and going, it may be very close to a sellout, if not a sellout. The Hawks/Pies game should have a massive crowd as well, though it won't 'sellout' as such.

I'd be surprised as 'Joe Public' if you are able to get any real premium seats for either of those games, but if you decide you would be happy to just be there, I'd be getting tickets pretty smartly now.

It looks a real good weekend of footy for you, I'm envious...

At the MCG it's worth having a look at the Northern (Olympic) Stand. Before we got put into the AFL Members area it's where we used to sit, towards the front of the third level above the pocket. The escalator took us up and it gave us a great view of the game and to my mind was preferable to the premium seats we have now. And the catering arrangements were better; they are pretty much non-existent on the second level unless you're in a hired room.

Just to make it a bit more confusing, MCG tickets are sold by Ticketek and Etihad by Ticketmaster.

To avoid the confusion of the ticket sellers I go to AFL.com.au and use the round banner at the top to go to the game i want and then click on the ticket window.
Both are going to be popular games so you might have to take what you can if you are looking for cheaper seats. At Etihad I am in love with Level 2 - for the extra cash the view is superb but that could make your weekend expensive.
I would call them and then have a venue map up so you can discuss.

Well it turns out were going to melbourne now for round 13, so ive just bought 2 tickets to the St Kilda Geelong game.
Olympic Stand, M56 first tier. Im pretty happy with that.

It looks as though its in the forward pocket (near the 50m arc), on the mcg website seating plan.

Congratulations bloods2005! I know many prefer the wings, and I can understand why, but I think you've got great seats and both of you will enjoy the occasion.
