Hawkins pace is a worry but his lack of "mongrel" is his biggest drawback. Like Jesse he doesn't crash enough packs or "provide the big body" in contests. A personal friend of mine, who is a recently retired VFL full back told me he couldn't believe how "gentle" Hawkins is. He will go around rather then crashing through, he will let himself be pushed around in marking contests. Like they are trying to do with Jesse, the coaches may be able to teach a bash and crash style. But unfortunately for Hawkins you can't teach pace. (The flipside of this of course is that you can't teach height either!)

Why are people using this thread to take shots at White? I think we all know Jesse and Hawkins are very similar players, there's no need for the "hehe we already have a guy who can't mark" style comments really.

I agree with the opinion that we don't want or need Hawkins, not because of his body size but because he is too one dimensional and lacking the right forward smarts. I also agree ,a forward with football smarts can win you games by manufacturing goals out of nothing. A big guy who hasn't got the "smarts" can be useful if he can pack mark and kick straight. The reason why the Pies are travelling so well is that they have it all with Dawes,Cloke ,the Pod and Krakour.

Our forward line has potential but is not there yet. McGlynne and TDL are your natural forwards who know where to run. Reid should be the pack marker who can kick a long goal,LJ could be a Dawes type flanker .We don't have a Pod but are trying LRT up front ,which as a stop gap solution,is worth a try.Mike Pyke is also worth a try.So we have the makings of a forward line.

To take the next step someone has to step up from within the club(White,Pyke,LRT,Everitt,Currie) or alternatively,we go looking for that power forward. Its the key to the next step of being a top 4 side.

Collingwood don't have "the Pod" unless there has been a mid-season trade between Geelong and the Pies. And Dawes a flanker? He's about as close to a genuine FF as is going around at the moment. Physically, LJ is nowhere near him, at least at the moment.

Also shopping on internet needs to be confined to the daylight hours........

As for Jesse, he is craving to play good footy and obviously frustrated with himself. You would have to have seen the anguish when he thought he had really injured his ankle in Ncle to absorb what I mean. Its not from lack of application he is not faabulous. Something is just not clicking. I want him in our top 26. I am not expecting him to be Plugger. But I want to see him contribute to the setup, and to enjoy himself. He is crap when he stresses. When he plays with a smile on his face he is a much better competitor. Maybe he is another who is just not a "killer".

One of the reasons I like the Jesse/TDL combo so much is that Jesse seems to focus on more than just his game when the two of them are out there, at times he seems to take more pride in assisting in a goal than actually scoring. Maybe a confidence issue?
I'm probably not making too much sense at the moment but once i figure out what I'm thinking I'll pass it on

Jesse plays for us right? Just Joking! My form has not been good lately!
I think a lot of fans ,myself included have lost patience waiting for him to click. In the meantime, there is no harm in him playing in the two's and trying different roles. If the problem is in his head then time should cure it if it is ever going to be cure. Maybe he will burst on the scene as a 24/25 year old. The psychiatrists all say that for men brought up in the computer /play station age emotional maturity is coming much later than previous generations. 26 is the new 21. Would love to see him fulfill your expectations Primmy !

Good post and I get you but I'm sure there are plenty of players who have really wanted it and just not been good enough for whatever reason. I'm hopeful Jesse won't become one of them of course.

I cant see how the Swans will be able to secure a big name player next year, with GWS being in exactly the same boat and a lot more $$ to offer.

If a player has to relocate to Sydney, surely he'd go to GWS for $800,000, not Swans for $500,000

We need to sit tight, and concentrate on keeping as many of our own. Use Bradshaws money to keep existing players.

If DB is contracted until the end of next year. I wonder what impact that will have on shopping money.

Many here are being critical of the Tomahawk but if the rumours are correct, which seems very likely, the Swans are very keen to get him as they must have a very good reason to do so.

Kirk, B2 gone and replaced by kids. Baz, Leo, Maj also haven't been replaced by players of equal cost (Gopher, Joey). Jack, Mummy etc would be costing a bit but overall I think we'd have a lot of cash to offer for an essential player. I hope Jack R finds out what a great place Sydney would be to live in this weekend - but we'd have to calm his temper. On the other hand, we've already had a tetchy FF and he did contribute to us scoring a flag . . .
