    Rhyce Shaw 150th Game Thread

Congratulations to Rhyce Shaw on reaching such a significant milestone game with Swans. I'm first to put my hand up to say I wasn't keen on the trade but he has made me eat humble pie many many times.
He has a great highlight reel in his time at the Swans and the best thing about him is the stuff that we, as fans, don't even see. We've read about his willingness to work with players, such as NicMal, during the off season and we read Dan's tribute about what a committed team mate and friend he is to his team mates.
I remember how confronting us fans found it when he gave Goodesy a gobful down at Manuka but now I like and admire that passion and fire.
So thanks Rhyce for embracing the red and white. I hope the team can win for you on Sunday.
Look forward to some dashing run of half back and a sneaky goal!

Cheers to Rhyce for 150 games - Official AFL Website of the Sydney Swans Football Club

He's become a favourite of mine for his work ethic and for often being the one who stands up when things are tough.

Apparently he has a real job as well.
Why Shaw's spadework is paying off on the field

I miss his running bounces from two seasons ago - they seemed to almost disappear last year, though have seen a few more in recent times. He seems such a hard nut, then says things like "Just have fun." to Nathan Gordon on his debut, and organises a cake for Gazza. Sounds like a top bloke.

Best of luck for your 150th Rhyce!! Hope you have a blinder.

PS - I read that it's Nick Smith's 23rd birthday tomorrow. (Happy Birthday Nick!) Will Rhyce pass on his cake duties?

I have Rhyce in my lists as Best Club Man for 2011 already (after watching him in action during training preseason).

Have a good game kiddo, and have a big sloppy smooch and hug from me.

I had no idea he was working as a landscape gardener, and was delighted to read it. It might be a good thing if such an avocation (or formal study) were taken up by all players. And I find very encouraging that he has learned from experience - many never do - and seems to be able to pass that on in a way that can be received by the younger players. He has become a very valuable player for us, and I wish him every success tomorrow and into the future.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

All Swans players are required to study or work in addition to their footy training and playing. Don't know about other clubs, though.

Good to hear it's not just left to their discretion - football players aren't always that discreet!

Congrats Comrade Shaw! ... landscape gardener too, huh? Hmmm, we're gonna have some work done on our house & the yard'll get all ripped up ... how cool would it be to have a Swan on site doing the landscaping?
