*perpetrated I think you mean. But that is hogwash. Playing in front of a crowd that big after averaging 25,000-30,000 is very daunting. Did you happen to catch the game against Carlton a fortnight ago? Even some of the older guys like Marty and Tadhg seemed somewhat overawed by the 45,000+ fans that were there. Tadhg is a premiership player, but I'm sure you were a fan in 2005, when they were premiers.
We do play finals football almost every year, but the future of our club hasn't got a great deal of experience in it. The older guys do, I know that, but it's the younger brigade that will carry is back to a flag. We have had a fairly large turnover of players from 2008 until now, so we are again on the journey of finals experience to premiers, so don't go spouting that, "we play finals every year!" tripe. We still need to develop some of the younger brigade in terms of finals football.
Who are you to tell me how to support my team?Comment

Funny I just saw you online and fired off a PM. It was one of the most memorable events iv'e attended. 10 Minutes of applause was unbelievable. Sorry Mods for off topic.Comment

If you watched the Carlton game, you would have seen Kennelly and Mattner very much overawed. Especially from the noise of the crowd that was predominantly Blues fans.
Urgh, that Grybas gag was extremely distasteful, Sauce. I'm appreciating this debate, but have some respect, please.
Newbie fan, good one. The Bloods culture is all about effort, playing for your teammates and achieving the ultimate goal through dedication and team work. So basically, that means staying true to the team, does it not? These younger kids need to use that in finals games before they'll be premiers.
I didn't tell you how to support your team. If you read it correctly instead of being in such haste to create witty replies, you would have read that I commented on how you DO support your team. I never TOLD you how to support your team. Score zero for that one, Sauce.
Obviously, you and I are never going to agree, so I'm prepared to move on from that. What I do want to know, though, is your opinion on what you want he club to do. How do you propose we become a top 4 side that you can 'count on' to be a premiership threat without getting finals experience? What is your M.O. in getting us into a top 4 team?Comment

I'm sorry we will play finals and why wouldn't we want to play finals !! We don't tank and hit rock bottom like other pathetic Melbourne clubs , we rebuild a list while saying competitive . Playing finals is better than the alternative just ask some of my mates who are Richmond supportersComment

So let me see if i have sauces view correct...
There should only be a "top 4" finals shootout in a game with 17 teams (18 next year!) because if you aren't in the top 4 then its not worth playing finals football.... The AFL is a greedy money making machine you say? Last i knew, was the AFL is a NOT FOR PROFIT business that re-invests the HUGE amount of money it makes from record ticket sales and tv deals, BACK into the game of AFL in many different ways, the main one being grass roots football.
So do you want that to stop? Do you want the game of AFL to shrink and maybe loose a few interstate teams that can't make the top 4? Do you not want the Swans to get a home final game which gives them A LOT of revenue?
Finals footy (top 8) makes a lot of money for all the teams and players involved, it also give them experience to keep playing well in BIG games. This is a professional sport not country footy, the AFL is a very efficient business and the Swans wouldn't be around any more if there was only a "TOP 4" finals system.... a lot of our fans would have faded away and we probably wouldn't have made it through the dark times of the late 80's and early 90's
If you think that is all incorrect then i'm afraid you wont find many people that will agree with your backwards and negative thoughts.Comment

Of course you will agree with that load of BS. You don't even know me, you think i am a troll because i dared criticised the swans and so your POV has been compromised.
Again if you don't like what i have to say - ignore function.
I haven't abused anyone - all i dared to do is make some observations which a few of you are taking a bit too personal for my liking!Comment

Why are so many hung up about playing finals this year? We are not going to play finals this year and if we are we won't advance past the first week - provided we make it.
And please don't give me this crap that our players need finals experience - our style and intensity means we play finals type footy almost every week!
And please please pleaase no more references to 2005! It won't happen this year!
The AFL final system is a joke! All it's designed is to maximise profits as rarely does any team outside the top 4 win the flag..rarely!
The only fans who should be looking forward to finals this year are collingwood, geelong and hawthorn!Last edited by Matt79; 27 June 2011, 09:21 PM.Swannies for life!Comment

TBH i think last years debutantes were far more exciting than this years. Sure they have been solid but nothing to write home about and i think we are getting carried away with Reid. Will be solid and good in a few years time..but this year apart from taking a few good contested marks hasnt done much.
Watch me cop it now.Comment

We are building a side with our experienced players helping to develop the new brigade who will win our premierships. The likes of Teddy, Bolts, Goodsie, LRT, Shawie, Macca, Mal etc might not see another premiership but they will help to develop the players who will. They probably will see it but I am saying that is not a bad thing. The idea of playing finals is to get players used to the pressure of finals footy. It is not the same as minor round and never has been. Play finals one year & get ready for the one weekend in September the nextComment
