    Spoilers in game threads...

There were some posts last night in regards to spoilers for the Gee-Ess game.

I can see both sides of the coin, but I feel it would be good to set a rule in place.

We post from many different places, many different timezones and many different local broadcast arrangements.

Quite often the spoiler game in question is a valid talking point in a game thread (eg. a chance for the Swans to move up a position on the ladder because Team X is losing).

The choices are simple. Either set a rule in place banning spoilers from the game thread, or allow spoilers so those who don't want to know can make the decision to not login.

Personally I think it's best to ban spoilers in game threads so everybody can actively participate, but that's just me.

    Just clarify the situation please.

If I may. Please note that this is my personal view, not one that has been discussed by the admins and / or moderators.

We are all Swans supporters (noted few excepted). We have a number of admins and a number of moderators. I believe all do a sterling job. At game time, we would all hope that the members and therefor most of the admins and moderators are at the game yelling themselves hoarse. I suppose that is not always the case, with members in a number of states that cannot always get to the footy.

Sometimes, when the footy is in the other state, people organise to see other entertainment. Movies, Car shows, food shows, some drive to Canberra for a ressies game, still others visit Rugby league matches (if that is also their fort?).

On any night, last night included, it is hard enough to keep up with the game, post, read, and make sure posters in other threads don't get away from you. Mind, we are not complaining. Last night was particularly difficult with many people having so many options ... Tennis, Tour de France, Bombers-Geelong upset in the making ... Oh, and a game involving the Swans, which we were losing ... You know, the language and the edits and reports are in direct proportion to a win or a loss. We win, it is so quiet, you have no idea ... We lose, you get the drift ...

Now we need to moderate spoilers as well. To be honest, they are the least of our worries. I care about the Swans - I don't care about the other games. There are 10 rounds to go, and many an upset one would be safe to assume. If they broadcast the score, so what, if they broadcast an umpire's phone number or address (which is eactly what closed the Hawthorn boards a number of years ago) we need to be on it. Unless you'd rather not have RWO.

People, just don't do it. And if you do, cop it. If you don't want to know scores, don't come online. This is not the only place that gives scores. Scores are now displayed on the AFL web-site, they are on the radio, TV. Go to the pub ... no don't, there will be scores there. Hide, in a darkened room, wait until the clock ticks past where you think it is safe to start watching without knowing scores. Enjoy.

Personally i usually have to stay away from the match threads to avoid spoilers, its unfortunate because it would be great to be able to join in.
Would it be possible to start match day threads for other games and keep them seperate maybe?
However being a mod isnt an easy job and i do appreciate you guys have a lot to monitor, maybe just at the start of a gameday thread the poster could request please post other game details in their relevant threads, hopefully it wouldnt need to be monitored as members would catch on after seeing the seperate threads for say the Dons vs Cats last night.

I didn't suggest it was a job for the moderators to remove the posts, more to discuss a policy that everybody self moderate and don't put spoilers in game day threads.

Non swans game posts should always go in a thread by themselves.

Have a spoiler warning in the title.

Some people are thoughtful enough, but others forget.

I only care about being spoiled for Swans games. All others are NARF's!
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.
