At the Hall of Fame he was pretty popular still. They were 3 or 4 deep around him getting autographs at the end of the night
Also the acceptance speech was pure Capper and brought the house down.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC
As I've stated before, it's a shame his post career antics have somehow overshadowed his career. Not that he's done anything Carey/Fevola like, just sort of acted the fool and made himself out as a bit of a dolt.
Few people other than longtime Swans fans would acknowledge just how good he was. I can guarantee there'd be none of the current angst around our forward line if he was still playing for us at his top.
He was very well nick-named... 'The Wiz'
Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09
The guy could play. Fantastic second efforts before they were fashionable, very quick to get the ball onto his boot, a very accurate (although not long) kick......and everyone knows about the marking. What has probably been forgotten now is that he was tough. He copped a lot of tish that nowadays would see people reported immediately. And he copped it a couple of times a quarter for years, but just kept getting up and kicking the goals. Fair enough that he wasn't in out team of the century (given names like Pratt and Lockett) but he would be a serious contender for the second 22.
He really was a gun.
anyone who kicks goals, takes marks, busts packs and creates havoc in the forward line like he did is a gun.
I was there that day in 87 at Waverley and from a Swans perspective there was only 2 highlights. Cappers ton which came via a kick off the ground, and the hanger he took over the top of Chris Langford.
A real shame he went to Brisbane, unfortunately from the football public this part of his career is how he is remembered.
I watched Capper absolutely towel the great Bruce Doull at Princess Park in 1986 - Capper made "the flying doormat' look ordinary - and that kind of thing rarely happened to Doull.
and he has made a living by taking the piss out of hiimself - a pity that some of todays so called "celebrities" cant do the same - because I would prefer 1000 Cappers than the wannabees that are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame now.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
Chickens drink - but they don't pee!

You are right. A self marketing genius. Doesnt take himself seriously and really seems to enjoy life. Arguably the most consistent high mark to have played the game.
