The game finished Sat night. Did you walk home? How dare you take an extended break while the rest of us slave away in the knowledge that we are about to get slammed with a carbon tax

There is indeed gold in this thread.

Plenty of posters here seem very happy to denegrate Longmire's coaching ability, and discount his chances of ever elevating our club to the level it needs to be challenge for the flag - and all based on barely two thirds of a season. That is despite him evidently having far more extensive experience and knowledge of the game at the elite level, and being surrounded by a team of vastly experienced and skilled ex-elite footballers.

TBC has never suggested people shouldn't express their views. All he is doing is pointing out that views formed by any of us on here are based on far less expertise and with far less available information than those formed by the coaching staff.

This does not preclude us obsessively talking about the team. It does not mean that we have to agree with everything the coaches do (or appear to be doing). It just means that any "opinion" expressed here is significantly less informed than the coaches' opinions and should be recognised as such.

Hehehehe, yeah, just a few days R&R.

Of course it would have been cheaper to leave Jupiters immediately and fly home, even first class would have been cheaper, but I elected to stay a few days and endure the 11hr drive home yesterday.

Back behind the desk today though
Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09

Thanks Liz. You summed my thoughts up beautifully.

You too are missing the point Liz.
The problem is there are many posters here , including Big Cat, who choose to trot this same argument out..... denigrating those who dare criticise swans footy ...but never those who praise, even when praise is unjustified.
            That's unbalanced in anybodies language.
IMO, this "they know more than you" argument is, to say the least, stating the bleeding obvious. Obviously those professionals working for the Swans footy department should and do, one hopes, have far more general knowledge, inside knowledge etc re : swans footy matters, than us mere posters at RWO.
But they also make bad calls, misjudgments, mistakes, like any human.
And as I assume most agree, the point of this forum is to give and respond to opinions, positive or negative.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

Hear hear! To put it in a more obscure way. The Space Shuttle obeys the laws of physics, flies through the known atmosphere, has a crew of trained humans and is largely visable when it makes a mistake and blows up! Yes,they can get it horribly wrong even when they know so much more than us. Opinion away!

                .
I am not exactly sure whose, or what, point I am missing.

The distinction between gratuitous praise and gratuitous criticism is not a distinction I have made, nor others who fall into my "camp" (which Big Cat would appear to - though the views here are mine. It is not appropriate for me to speak on behalf of others),

I completely agree that any "opinion" that claims that Longmire is the best coach on the planet, with astute tactical awareness, wonderful man management and motivational skills etc, is as baseless as those that claim he is a useless hack who should never have got the job and will never lead the Swans to success. The key difference between those two "opinions" is that one has been expressed several times this season (by a minority) while if the other has been, I must have blinked at the time.

You barking up the wrong tree Liz.
So to avoid becoming repetitive, I think I'll just move on from this thread.
