Is it too late to cash in whatever we gave Jetta to make sure we get Reid locked down?

I'm with you Stell. None of the articles are saying 'I/He signed for a further 3 years'. It's established that he signed early doors to an extra year to make his 2 year draftee contract become a three year contract, that part is not in dispute. I doubt anybody is 'fudging' the story, I'm just worried communication has broken down somewhere along the line.
My concern is somebody asked Gary a month or two back 'Aren't you out of contract at the end of the year?' and his reply was 'No, I signed for 3 years', him meaning when he first came to Sydney, them thinking he meant he signed last week/month.
I sure hope the Warrnambool Standard is right and they probably are, I'm just leaving the champagne corked atm...Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

I know what you mean, and like Trip-B-taka I hope like hell that it's true, but I'm going to wait for some clear cut details before I get too excited. The article from the Warrnambool? It backs up what was printed in the Herald Sun and also has quotes from Gary discussing the extension. Besides that, it is Gary's local paper and he has done interviews for them before. Can't see why they would fudge a story a like that. Correct me if i'm wrong but the Swans don't announce contract information for every player. Otherwise our player/contract information would be 100% accurate and up to date without any guess work involved?
Gary is a super, super, super young talent and was our highest draft pick in a while, I do think that's something the club would announce. Extending when he has a real shot to play seniors for another season and 1/4 would just be a bit odd IMO in his situation- he'd be signing an amount on potential (which is huge) whereas he'd be a chance if he signed mid next year to start to realise some of that potential and up his $$ significantly. I have no doubt the club would sign him for a further 3 years now, just seems odd on the player management side (although the club may have just had a bit in the coffers to throw).I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I agree. Signing next year you would assume would be more beneficial for him. Maybe when Gary returns through the Reserves in a week or so they might run a story then? Would be nice for it to be explained on
paper by the Club, I do agree. My head hurts - enjoy your day!!

I just love this line from teh interview "That?s why I signed a new contract, with AJ and Hanners and Luke Parker and Jed Lamb and Sam Reid coming through, it?s just going to be so good. It is going to be an exciting couple of years so I?m sticking around."One vege patch at a time
