Name the Best Swan to wear #1?

To pass the time during the Bye, let's name the best Swans player to wear #1.

If you need a reminder see the Player Number list
    RWO - RedAndWhiteOnline.com

Roy Cazaly, Laurie Nash from another era.

But I'd go for Hall. Closely followed by Roos.

First of all, great that we have that reference point. I love knowing who has worn a particular guernsey, especially those who hold records in each number. If we're going to be serious about it, it's either Laurie Nash or Herbie Matthews if we're looking solely at the best to wear it. Most underrated? Jamie Lawson. I was there the day he broke his leg, and it was devastating as he'd really begun to play some great footy.

Over their entire careers - Roos followed by Hall.

Years at the Swans - Hall then Roos
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

        Staff infection.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Greg Stafford. He is the only one out of that whole list that had his own stalker.

Although a few years later another wearing the No1 took care of a Staker.

Next would have to be Gary Cowmeadow. Unfortunately the Swans put him out to pasture far too early.

Is this thread going to work it's way through all the numbers? Damn I wish had a BA and could try out my creative writing skills.

Bas, I think we are trying to make you aware that we have a great deal more than just the forum you come to to post and read. We have a whole lot of Swans information in the Wiki that so many people could contribute to, but few do. Player numbers, scores from all games ever played, reserves reports and scores, injury lists, draft results, who was drafted, when etc etc. All this information at your fingertips. Have you ever gone to look? If you want it to go all the way through the numbers, start the post for the number 2's ... Use Scott's link in his OP for the players to have worn it.

Thank you Frog, I was not aware of the information in the Wiki but will look very regularly from now on.

Vic Belcher: Only member of the Red and White to play in two premierships.

Nash would have told you it was yours truly

Some good names there through the years.

A lot of great names to wear number one. Paddy Scanlon & Roy Cazaly were stars in their day. In the old days the Captain generally wore number one

Laurie Nash was rated very highly by my Grandfather (and himself) who was a Swans man so he has some claims.

                    Otherwise I agree with Al.
