I would put Jude on an equal level with both Kelly and Kirk. Maybe not as good a footballer as Kelly or as a good a leader as Kirk but just as courageous.

How far did they go back? Skilton would have to be stiff to not be in there if they've gone back that far. He used to get hammered every week and kept going back for more?

I was hoping that as it was a Legends function, they would have gone back further. Bit it seems that if you didn't make it on colour tv, you don't exist in a lot of these things.

Agree, Skilton should be at the top of the list. Receiving to Brownlow with 2 black eyes is so typical, plus playing for many weeks with a broken arm, kicking 5 goals against Hawthorn after getting knocked out cold.....
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

I find the whole concept of "most courageous" a bit bizarre and probably insulting to all the players not on the lists. Pretty much every player on an AFL list nowadays goes out every week and puts their head over the ball with little regard for what is coming in the opposite direction. If they don't, they get dragged by the coach at best, ridiculed and vilified by commentators at worst.

add in Leapin' Leo as well. He was a kamikaze pilot.

I partially agree, I think all AFL players are courageous and in many ways, I have always believed it is the most courageous sport in the world, backing into contests with no idea what is coming at you is pretty unique to our sport. Most other "tough" sports know what is coming at them.

However, I do think some players do go that extra few miles and are never jaded by being roughed up or spooked by a big hit etc. Whether that's dumb courage or not I don't know, but I do know there are players that will find a contest no matter what.

Bit rough on Archer, Gong. I would put Archer number 2 to Paul Kelly. From what I saw of Archer, he was only thuggish (if that's a word) when supporting a teamate, who had copped one from an opponent. He was a very good footballer and always put his body on the line, often against bigger key position players.

There are so many unbelievably courageous players.....what about J Brown, M Voss, L Hodge, just to name a few .......
.... to put them in order is just pissing in the wind.

have to agree - no doubt he was a good player - but he always had that look on his face that he wanted to punch someone's lights out - I'm sure he is a top bloke too, but I just couldnt warm too him.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
