Swans in danger of being poached

We have some very, very valuable young talent on that list of players coming off contract next year. We are probably going to lose at least one of them. Hopefully it's not Sam Reid or Nick Smith, they'd be the most valuable of all. -

Balym has some inside knowledge you would think so if he says Gary is 2012 maybe it was just a one year extension on a two year deal. I'm sure Gary signed a 3 year deal to begin with though??
Plus LRT just signed so he missed that one.
As for LRT - delighted to hear it. Hard-working, intelligent, always prepared to learn, great attitude, loves the club. Also big and athletic. And more versatile than most of us expected. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. That article is actually fairly comforting. OK, it's going to be a scramble to sign everybody next year, but it's fair to say that O'Keefe, Shaw and Bolton are safe due to their age. By the same token, if we were to lose one of them, it wouldn't be too bad for us for the same reason (only losing a year or two of service at most).
I get the feeling Craig Bird has greater perceived value at the Swans than anywhere else. If you just look at him, he's a bit slow, not hugely strong, so-so kick. His value lies in the intangibles, which will be far more apparent to Swans staff than outsiders. I can't see him being chased with anything we won't be more than prepared to match. Same with Nick Smith.
McVeigh is a captain of the club. Can't see him going, and if he does, it will have to be for an absolute bucketload, meaning we'll probably get overs on the compensation.
McGlynn is perhaps a danger, but he's only just arrived at the club. I can't see him being poached away any time soon.
Malceski's value will have diminished with his persistent knee injuries. Risk for GWS, cheaper to hold on to for us. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Rohan and Reid are probably the only real dangers. However, they seem extremely happy at the Swans, and the only hints about any sort of disloyalty have come from the homesickness front (Rohan looked less than happy to be drafted to the Swans on the night; on Ask a Swan, Reid said he misses his friends, a lot of whom are in Melbourne, and he's also got Ben playing for Collingwood). On that basis, I can't see him being lured across town any time soon.
Paul Bevan may go. In fact, I'd love GWS to poach him, because we'd get (small) compensation, GWS get a hard, experienced body, Bevo probably gets a career extension he otherwise wouldn't have, and the rest of our uncontracted players are off-limits! Yay!
Regarding the salary cap for 2013, Reid and Rohan will be demanding big contracts, yes, but we're going to be without Bradshaw and Craig Bolton, and likely to be without Kennelly and White (who I'd imagine was on some fairly serious pre-emptive coin), possibly Jude, plus whoever else drops off the list.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

Simply no no no to Nick going anywhere. I reckon that would be as big a loss to us as B2 was for the Lions - we'd regret it for a decade or more.Comment

wtf @ Rohan being uncrontracted at teh end of next year..
Rohan and his family, including admiring young cousins and Rovers juniors Corey and Brayden Hawkes, might be separated for a while longer yet as the versatile Swan recently signed off on a three-year deal.Comment

I asked Todd Balym (who wrote this article) over Twitter to check his Rohan facts. He came back and said that Gary was signed to a 3 year deal after draft along with Jetts, Reid and TDL. He initially said Jetta is the only one to extend. He posted back an hour later saying that Gary has in fact signed a new 3 year deal and that he was wrong.
Im still amazed though that Gary has signed an extra 3 years with one still to go, taking him to 2015. I hope it's true but it's still all a little confusing.

Nich, the Big Red is probably in love (as happens to young men) and has no intention of moving away. Besides we are absolutely gorgeous, you have to admit. Noone wants to leave us.
Very few of our players actually jump ship, only one comes to mind in the last ten years. The others were pushed. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Fred Campbell comes to mind. Well, and possibly O'Keefe...Comment

As I understand GWS can only take one uncontracted player in each of the next 2 years. I would think they have to be in negotiation with Reid to extend his contract.
As for this upcoming season nothing would surprise me. Someone made a point about Bird not being rated. Well it probably goes for much of our side. Knowing Sheedy, if he follows his style, he will will be looking for some far more mature age players this year and will need to go for some backmen. But it is a raffle.Comment
