    sack The Forward Coach

Forward Coach John Blakey has to take responsibility for the loss tonight. The kicking for goal was dreadful. Who's bloody stupid idea was it to make a backman a forward coach in the first place. This is one of the worst results of the season. We had the game set up then missed four strait. We are now in real threat of missing the eight and the responsibility lies with the coaching staff for not concentrating on goal kicking when we have known all season it has been an issue.
I also blame the senior coach for not allocating his coaching panel correctly. Tudor played forward & back & is the mid coach work that one out. Blakey was a back and is forward coach and I must add was not seen as a very reliable kick at goal during his playing career.

I thought Roos panel was pretty much set up the same IE forwards as back coaches etc. The kicking was no better or worse tonight then it has been all season.
Just remember how different the result would have been if 1. Our captain knew the rules and 2. our captain could kick a "Captains goal" when the time arises!
I don't think tonights result cost us the finals but I do think it has cost us a home final.

TDL missed one costly tackle but also laid another important one later. Don't forget the effort in the final last year either. Goodes' miss at the end was not as bad as the two sitters he fluffed running into open goals. Having our other captain out also didn't help. Kicking 2.9 in the last quarter killed us. But, in a game decided by the smallest margin, I can't help thinking that the goal paid to Essendon that was clearly touched on the line by Mumford and started a run of three momentum boosting goals in the third quarter may have had some impact on the result.

I am still yet to be at a win against Essendon. The only time in living memory that we beat them in Melbourne was a cousin's wedding. At least three times I've seen them beat us by less than a goal. I'm 35. I'm getting a bit sick of it.

TDL was fine, all things considered. He hasn't played in over a month, and if it weren't for McVeigh he would have played ressies this week. He was running out of puff at half time, as you'd expect with somebody so underdone, but his effort was there. It should have been Gordon in for McVeigh though, TDL was clearly underdone.

As for sacking the forwards coach, well, I sort of agree, but for different reasons. Too many times we were caught without a player leading. Even Reid and Goodes were a bit stagnant at times. I appreciate that up on the wings, we tend to create contests to kick to because we back ourselves in the stoppages, but surely in the forwardline that's not the best option? We waste so many inside 50s because we kick to contests, lock it in, and then take snaps at goal WHICH @@@@ING MISS!!!! Much rather see our players lead and try to take set shots, and if it rebounds so be it.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I wouldn't be judging TDL on the basis of one game. Came into the side late and unexpectedly. Yes, that soft tackle was a shocker, but he tried to make amends later on and ran into good position for his goal. I'm a fan, but I realised tonight that he's not ready for seniors.

Reid took some terrific marks and looked to be kicking a lot better tonight. Unfortunate that he seemed to pick up a minor injury and wasn't the same after that.

And how about McGlynn's banana from the boundary? And Jetta's first. And Goodesy's contender for goal of the year? And Bird threading it past about 6 players? We kicked some great goals; just not the 4 that really mattered when we were 2 up in the last...

Exactly.......in fact one could argue that our goal kicking kept us in the game up till the last quarter. And Reid has obviously improved too.

Agree. If Goodes had kicked those two goals that no AFL player should miss running into an open unprotected goal and if he had not broken a rule that all AFL players should know about a ruckman knocking the ball through the goals, we would not have needed that after siren goal kick that Captains are there to kick.

Look he played some inspiring football mixed with some terrible mistakes. His game is hard to sum up because of the huge contrast between his best and worst. That last kick was a redemption opportunity to fix his hero/Captain status.

TDL was just underdone but still showed football smarts. Tadgh is still a passenger while the rest of the team's effort was superb.

You can play honourably, but to win you gotta kick goals. 2 goals 9 pts in the final quarter was why we lost coupled with 2 costly mistakes in the last 3 minutes.Judes kick and Jett's handball were unbelievably bad at that crucial stage.

Overall a top team effort and with an ounce of luck we could have won it.

The goalkicking is miserable but the inside 50s are deplorable. Hows many times do we just bomb the ball up with no rhyme or reason One of TDLs skills is finding space inside 50 but we kept kicking long bombs mainly to Reid when half the time he had 3 on him, surely there was therefore a better option. I keep alllowing excuses because we have youngsters in the team but Tadgh Mattner and even Goodes'ys clangers were appalling that our experienced players are the ones making the mistakes says something. The forwards coach certainly needs looking at as does our overall structure in attack.

Every time a game is important, and ironically against lowly opposition, we have been in a position to win ...and lost I am still not convinced with the coaching from top down there were some excellent signs yesterday in terms of pressure, but our kicking in general play is disgaceful and goalkicking very moderate our forward structure is moderate...we don't need a football dept review to tell us what kpis are lacking. 2 goals 9 in last quarter, 2 goals up with minutes to go Bloods take a long hard look at yourself!

I say we do a gold coast and bring in a minimum weight. That would force tdl and jetta to get some much needed muscle or get out.
