Interesting Goodes Interview - largely non-footy

Adam Goodes - interview - Swans - Features - Sports - Time Out Sydney

"On the footy field I?m a creature of instinct ? running around, not thinking, reacting ? a pure expression of my Aboriginality, an equal on a level playing field. But off the park I?m borne of a different skin colour and that means I?ve got to think deeply about what I do and the choices I make."

Explains a lot. He is a good man is Adam. Aren't we lucky to have him.

Very Zen. But doesn?t every footballer live or die by his level of ?mongrel??
I didn?t have mongrel at the start of my career. But I?ve learned since that I can cross the white line, find some mongrel and still be the person I want to be off the field.

Can he have a quiet, angry word with J.White?

Agree with all of the above. He is a really interesting guy and a super footballer who I am always glad he is a swan and that I have seen play.

hahah at some degenerate dons fans saying goodes is arrogant in the way he celebrates, and saying judd and ablett don't celebrate like him and go over the top. first of all he doesnt go over the top, and second of all when you play AFL in front of 40,000 and kick a good goal im sure you'd celebrate. sore losers. LOVE YA GOODESY

Very impressive. I'm particularly pleased about (1) the way he is mentoring Lewis and Byron - potentially opens up their future bigtime (2) the fact that he talks most weeks with a sport psychologist and not just about football, sharing whatever's on his mind - a great asset.
I'm very pleased he's going to be around for another couple of seasons.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Good article but seems even Adam's wing wasn't big enough for poor Byron.

The journo should look up what "zen" means but apart from that it was in interesting read.

It clearly shows how that one decision early in life regarding the smoke helped him associate with a better group of people rather than get absorbed into a drug culture as many kids do.
