Possible Retirements in the next two years

There are a list of players who have all given great service to the club that will possibly retire in the next two years. some will be probable not possible. I'd like to know your thoughts as to who would replace them in the seniors.

    Ryan O'Keefe
    Jude Bolton
    Tadhg Kennelly
    Martin Mattner
    Rhyce Shaw

There is also a possibility of these players retiring as well

    Lewis Roberts-Thompson
    Teddy Richards

Even though LRT now plays a forward/ruck role essentially there are 4 backmen there as Rhyce no longer plays back.

The young players are; Currie, Everritt, Heath, LJ, Lamb, Meredith, Pyke, Rohan, Spangher, Sumner, White, Mitchell, McCaigue, Gordon, McNiel and maybe Murphy.

I haven't included Bulldog & Bevo or any player on the team list for the weekends match. Good luck and let's have a bit of fun with this, by the way I am aware we may pick up in the draft but the next two years drafts could be pretty poor pickings and all sides are locking down star players like prisoners of war at the moment.

Shaw is still very fast for his age so I doubt that. LRT not.

I'd only be saying Jude after two years and Kennelly wants to play on.

Your basis of choice seems to be age. What's the story with the young players - sudden onset of accelerated aging.

Howling up the wrong tree Wolfy.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

Shaw will be 32 as will O'Keefe & Kennelly, Jude will be 33, Marty 31 & LRT & Teddy 30. They have to retire sometime Bas & over thirty in this game unless you are a freak like Goodes or Fletcher is OLLLLLLLDDDDD! I'm just starting a fun thread about the future of the club. TWO YEARS Bas it is a long way away & LRT signed for two, Teddy signed for two, Jude signed last year for two. The new brigade are coming through and will be experienced players in two years.

Wolfy, keep this thread on ice and grab it out again in the off-season when we'll all be looking for things to discuss. Most of us are concentrating on the present at the minute.

Geelong are going to have their own problems in the next few years & I wonder how they have kept all those players within the salary cap anyway! Maybe bought them a pub or two but only to be handed over after they retire? That was the old trick & it can still work as it would not fit within the salary cap. By the way they will have a mass exodus in the next few years.

Here are a list of Geelong players in the veteran class & who fall into Free Agency. Ages in 2012; Bartell 30, Byrnes 29, Chapman 31, Corey 30, Enright 31, Hunt 30, Johnson 29, Kelly 29, Ling 31, Milburn 35, Mooney 33, Ottens 32, Scarlett 33, Wojcinski 32. Plus Mackie comes into the Free Agency tag next year. That is a big chunk of a footy team about to leave in 2 to 3 years.

Mooney, Milburn, Ottens, Scarlett and possibly Bartell, Byrnes and Hunt next year.

We have less problems but it is good to know that we have the ready made replacements& are going to play them in the next few years.
