    Folau 6 goals v Belconnen

Israel is certainly proving to be a good convert & Sheedy a wily old bastard as usual. He's kicked a few this year & probably will make the conversion quite well. I hope the Giants go very well next year as it can only bode well for a great Sydney rivalry. I hope we go better in other words premier but I still think we need a strong Giants to win Sydney over.

The problem with the Swans as a Sydney side is that much of the population still doesn't see us as a Sydney side. We are seen as a Melbourne side forced to play in Sydney due to economics and that perception is not entirely wrong. The fact that we still maintain links to South Melbourne is always going to work against us in Sydney.

GWS has no such garbage in Sydney, they are totally Sydney and they will win Sydney over if Sheedy embraces Western Sydney. The community is already getting behind them and they have had very good turn out to see several matches.

The Swans have plenty of support in the East but the West & South/West definitely will not go to us & never would. The Giants will win over that region and do very well. We have to concentrate on the North & East now which is better for us as we can now concentrate our finances on wooing young talent from soccer, RU & RL.

    Couldn't agree more.

Where do you you get this perception from?? I don't see this at all. The average joe in the street wouldn't know South Melbourne if they fell over it and if they do it certainly doesn't affect there decision to support the club.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

OK I get my perception from the blokes I know who are RL supporters in the West & South West where I lived for a quite a while. I also have a friend who lives in East Hills and most of his mates at the local club think the same as him, that Sydney is a Melbourne side relocated. This doesn't affect our support base in the inner city and the east or north. At one stage I remember being at Sydney games and the and the Swanlets used to perform at half time & they were a group of Gay Guys in frocks with beards. The supporter base was very small & it revolved around Oxford St & the East. We have come a long way and I got to the stage some years ago that I couldn't even get into games unless I booked the tickets on line. I used to get a Swans Rail Ticket which got me into the game as well.

The demographic of the Swans support you have to admit is very East, inner city middle class or upper class with some of the Gay supporters that embraced the club when they first came to Sydney thrown in (and they fit into all demographics). There are not too many true blue collar workers supporting the Swans!

I've lived in the west for 42 years and have supported the NRL for as long as I can remember and I can tell you that South Melbourne doesn't even rate a mention among league fans. The diehards won't support the sport of AFL and the reasoning has nothing to do with the Swans roots.

Be interesting to see if the perception of the supporter base of the Swans being mainly in the East and Inner city is actually correct now. The people around me at the SCG come from all over like Newcastle, Chatswood, Sutherland, South West Sydney, Blue Mountains and one comes from the central coast (one of our esteemed posters actually). I know that isn't very scientific but I'm just not sure our supporter base is as East and Inner City as it once was.

Al all the people I know who actually hate AFL and are RL supporters are from around East Hills, Bankstown or the west around Para. The problem I had with them was ok I could put up with them just being anti AFL but being generically anti Swans was a real problem for me. I rarely visit my friend in East Hills and talk sport as he goes rabid about Sydney being South Melbourne & he cites the 2005 Premiership. He is Sydney born & bred I am not so where a team comes from doesn't worry me, but he hates Melbourne influence in Sydney & according to him Sydney is better in every respect to Melbourne. That old Sydney/Melbourne rivalry is still alive in some quarters, just listen to Mark Guyer or whatever his name is sprouting how the AFL have invaded his turf!

Wolfy, you do realise that your friend is a nutcase?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

NRL supports are THE most thin-skinned supporters of any code I have come across. Don't they, or anyone else, accept that it's ok to be a sports fan rather than be exclusive to one code? Footy and football/soccer are my favourites but I still watch other codes. It doesn't have to be one v the other. Football monogamy is probably as boring as the other kind...
