We don't even need to win another game to qualify for finals!!!

Currently we sit in 8th position on 9 and a half wins....we can only be caught by

Fremantle (9 wins) and would need to beat either Collingwood at home or Bulldogs in Melbourne in Hally's last game.
North (9 wins) and would need to beat either St. Kilda or Richmond.
Melbourne (7 and a half with a terrible percentage) would have to win against Richmond, Gold Coast and then Port away.
Bulldogs (7 wins) would have to beat Port (away), Hawthorn and Fremantle at home

That would surely make us the worst team ever to reach the finals!

You'd have to reckon, on current form, that the Roos would beat Richmond, while it is not inconceivable that Melbourne could win all their remaining games.

But if we can't beat Brisbane on our home turf in round 24 then we absolutely don't deserve to play finals.

And what great form that would be to take a string of losses into the finals, where we would then be humiliated by any and every other team there. Besides north will beat richmond, and melbourne has a good chance of winning their games. This is a stupid thread.

I think I'd prefer to win a couple more, just to be on the safe side.

Yep, the Final 8 is like what they used to say about the Aussie cricket team - harder to get out of it than into it! Seriously though, North could win both of its games, Melbourne could win all of its 3 games and Freo could some good so we need at least one win to get in. I agree with Sharp 9 that we could be the worst ever team to make finals. Would still love to get there, though!

I place the probability that we will lose to Brisbane and North beat Richmond at around 80% at this stage. Win / lose, make it, not make it, it doesn't really matter anymore, right? We are not going to progress past the first week of the finals. The only benefit is getting the experience into some of the younger players offset against a week extra to get right for next season.

Unless it works out that Melbourne win all 3 games and that scenario works out. A genuine possibility.

If things go half predictably we will probably end up playing either the Saints or the Dons - possibly at home and that should set us up to play the Hawks - sets us up for very nicely for a prelim against the Pies

We would be the ultimate example of making up the numbers. We can't beat the top 4 sides and this year we've had embarrassing losses to Adelaide, Fremantle and Richmond. Sure this team could suddenly find a spark and win four elimination finals on the road in a row but on current form, I can only see them being - one and done.

If we kick straight, we can potentially beat a lot of finals sides.

For example, today, if we kicked 23.10 it would be a near 80 point win.

To do any damage this year, we need to suddenly find some high accuracy

This. We played incredible footy all over the ground, with the only exception being when kicking at goal. Our defenders read the play superbly (not just Ted, though he was the best example, but Grundy, Shaw, Johnson, Mattner, Malceski, everybody!), our midfielders absolutely dominated, we tackled and pressured like men possessed, and our ball use through the middle was as clean as I've seen it for some time. When we play like that, if combined with straight kicking at goal, we can beat anybody. That said, it's a bit much to expect us to be able to do that all the way through finals, so it's not like I rate us as a premiership chance, but our best is certainly up there.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!
