My thanks to Big Al for responding as it was HE that I was thinking of when I wrote what I did.

I support two codes. The Swans and the National Netball. All the teams in that code. I don't play favouritism.

I will support GWS and the Swans. The Swans will always be my first team but why limit my enjoyment and experience just to one team. This isn't SA or WA.

If at some stage in the future GWS do something I don't like then I will just follow the Swans only.

So if anyone wants a copy of the Brewongle Goat Smuggling Plan then you'll have to email me and not Big Al.

To hire a Swans Gigolo (with appendix scar) then pm Big Al.

Overall, I don't appreciate your presumption of my opinions. You've misconstrued much of what I've said in my earlier post.
Well thanks for your serve. You won't mind if i don't get off my high horse.

            1. It really doesn't matter if Sheedy said what he did. Technically he is right. So what?

            2. I wasn't insulting your intelligence. However if its flawed to support GWS financially, why doesn't your argument apply to the Swans as well?

            3. This is fickle Sydney and that is why there is no ongoing recognition. Sydney is a League town first.

            4. The Swans don't play home games out of Canberra so you've answered your own comment.

            5. Yes it does make GWS a "true Sydney team" because if we follow your suggestion then all the players have to have been born in Sydney as well. History will show that it commenced in Sydney. Last time I checked, birth certificates showed where you were born and not where you were conceived.

            6. Since where did I say your opinion wasn't valid? But thanks for your strongly worded comments on what I wrote. It says a lot.........

Funny, because you were the one who actively made the point that he didn't say it. In fact, you asked me to prove it. I'm the one who agreed with Big Al's comment that said Sheeds said it tongue-in-cheek.

Again you COMPLETELY miss my point. I said that if a Swans fan buying a membership for GWS, is doing ONLY because they think it helps to growth of the game in NSW they they might as well give it to the Swans. That way it would achieve the same purpose, but ALSO got to a club where the person had a emotional attachment.

Supporting GWS financially is fine if you want them as your second team or whatever. Again, I have no qualms with it.

Agree completely. What are we disagreeing on here??

Another case where you've misunderstood my point. There is nothing wrong with GWS playing games in Canberra. THe people of the ACT deserve more games. However I only made a point to criticise their involvement in Canberra because it exemplified their hypocrisy in labeling the Swans as a non-'homegrown' AFL team. Swans represent South Mel/Sydney. GWS represent Western Sydney/Canberra. Simple.

Obviously the Giants are a true Sydney team. That does not validate the Swans being any less a true Sydney team.

The fact that you thought my alternative opinion wasn't, in simple terms, well conceived, is a clear indication that you didn't think my opinion was valid.

You took what I said off-handedly to another poster and replied with your own 'strongly worded comment', making wild presumptions about my thoughts on GWS and demanding I prove to you some stupid little comment Sheedy made.

You well and truly deserved your serve, though I'm sorry I wasted so much time delivering it.

I wont be supporting GWS and already hate the rumblings out of the expensive AFL experiment, I would personally hope eventually most Swans fans 'hate' them with the same passion WCE/FREO-ADE/PA-CARL/ESS etc do with each other. (but each to their own).

A sanitised rivalry will not do much for AFL in this city in my opinion. They have to find new fans to survive.

I'm quite happy to see GWS coming in, even if I'm not sure about the 'Giants' name (somewhat lame). I did a foundation membership - not sure if I'll upgrade next year, but sure I'll cheer them on (except of course against my Swans).

I even wore my orange Giants cap out in public the other day - feeling rather nervous, actually, as it's only when I wear a cap of a non-Swans team that I run into someone in Swans gear at the market or bus stop or something and feel like a traitor.

Granted, GWS've taken to calling their fan base 'The Orange Army' in their communications ... shades of Collingwood (blechhh) aside, I wonder how that will go among any fervid descendents of Irish Catholics out West ...

As there has been a very vigorous debate on the other thread about hippee's and Byron Bay, the orange has another meaning as well.

Osho, or as he is known to most people - the late Baghwan Shree Rashneesh had all his devotees wear orange and they were known as the "Orange People". The significant majority who live in Byron Bay are quite wealthy.

Perhaps Baghwan Kevin Sheedy is starting his own movement out Rooty Hill way. He can probably afford 72 Rolls Royces.

Why does the name Rooty Hill (and the map of Tassie) always make me smile? It mst be a hard place to bring up girls.

'Baghwan Kevin' would be a magnificent nickname.

And maybe for GWS/Sydney clash days, we can have someone dress up like a giant orange and have Cyggy run into him with that little scooter thingy, knock him over, and roll him off field.

Colless wants to trace our origins back to 1874, yet we only claim 4 premierships.
                                We won 1 AFL premiership
                                We won 3 VFL premierships
We won 4 VFA premierships (including our only "premiership era")

While I appreciate why the AFL pushes the "nothing prior to 1896 counts" argument, but from a historians point of view it's a load of twaddle.

Just as the AFL is a continuation of the VFL, so too was the VFL a continuation of what went before (fully 2/3rds of the VFA clubs joined the VFL immediately it formed, and more followed later).
