I wonder if some of the posters were watching the same game I watched (on Fox, admittedly). I thought Jesse worked hard, was a good backup ruck, and should have converted his attempt at goal, in which case I suspect people may have reacted differently. Marty had an off day. Rhyce's delivery could have been better. And there were other negatives - they weren't as intense as last week.
Having said all that, it was an exciting game to watch. Goodes was wonderful and Bolton wasn't too far behind him. The midfield got their act together and outplayed the Lions, whose mids are still respectable. The forward line without Sam is deficient, but we were still good enough to wallop Brisbane, had more goals than behinds and Spangus Maximus showed some more of what he can do. The defence without Reg was still pretty effective. If only Jetts had the (controlled) aggression of Red Rover.
    Now it's up to Carlton!
And the umps had a good game. Although, to pick out one incident, I think Mummy was hard done by, pinged for riding a player into the ground when in fact he effectively did a pushup to get his body off the player; he was disappointed but didn't carry on, good response.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

go back and watch the game again. he did his job nicely and brought others into the game on quite a few occasions. there was but one occasion where he failed to provide a contest and that was more due to the pathetic kick which favoured his opponent.

If you have concerns about this game point fingers at everyone behind the ball, because every single one of them missed targets with such regularity you would have assumed that the players far from wearing clash jumpers were actually wearing exactly the same outfit.

I thought Jesse had a better game today. The new hairstyle made him look tougher and he tackled well especially the heavy one on the Goose.

Amon seems to have lost a lot of weight compared to his time at the Swans. Probably all the worrry about getting retained next year.

Rhys had the most clangers today.

I'm really starting to enjoy watching the Spangher Man in our forward line. Played another very good game today. Looked very sore when eventually subbed.

ROK's injury looked bad at the ground but no one checked him once he came off. He just sat there on the bench.

Jesse had what seemd a significant injury to his right arm after a tackle and it hung limply for quite a while there in the last quarter. I was surprised that he wasn't subbed but I think at this stage Spangher is more important to the team.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

We did OK today with a less than full strength team, but the reality is we're off to Melbourne next week to play the Saints in an Elimination Final.

I reckon Jetta's position on the list is far less secure than Jesse's.

Like I said in a previous post Al, not sure how he got promoted after 1 game in 2's, where he did zilch? U and I (after watching lots of 2's), know there are players busting their boilers week in week out that deserve a crack!

I just got home from a restaurant near the ground and started reading this thread and kept checking to see if I'd somehow got to a thread started after the Tigers game. I'm guessing the early posters haven't seen the Lions much lately - and seen how they nearly beat the Pies and the Eagles. They are playing very good rebound footy but tend to fall off in the 4th. The Swans did enough and there were some moments of magic out there. Goodes and Rohan provided the most - and Jude and Spang for their goals. I think Dan does more kicking to the opposition than anyone else but he still has a role to play. Shaw is still most of our attack - and it amazing how often every other player wants to get it to him. Tadhg played well today - the best for half a season.

It'd be nice to have Rich in the team - the kid can find the ball all game.

I thought Macca was very ineffectual today but am glad he played, and hope he plays next week too. Can't say the same for Jetta.

Did what we have to do, at times we were fabulous, at times less so. Still, nice to have decent weather, a good crowd and an entertaining Swans performance at the SCG!

Could Parker and Rohan have become really important parts of our finals jigsaw puzzle in just a couple of weeks? Both bring something special to the team that we've missed in the past.

Stell I will admit his ruckwork was the best iv'e seen from him. The rest of his game was much the same as usual, but we do look better when he plays for some strange reason.

I agree. I walked out thinking that the performances of Parker and Rohan were the major positive of the game. Gary ran really hard all game and had some very classy touches. Great set shots for goal and of course that cracking snap for which I had the perfect view. Parker impressed for his ability to make good decisions when near the ball. In that way he reminds me of Jude: hard over the ball, a good mark, a straight kick, and a smart player. With AJ and Sam, these guys will contribute strongly to maintaining a successful Swans team.

Considering we missed our key forward and back today, I thought we handled them well. We were a little flat in the first quarter, but looked fantastic in the second and cruised from there. If we want to push 2 or 3 weeks into the finals, we'll need Sam and Grundy back. Interesting that Grundy was absent with a virus tonight. He almost missed with a virus last week. Hopefully just a rest for Sam. Mummy limped off after the game; played the fewest minutes of everyone but Jetta tonight.

I thought the boys tried to go into lockdown mode after ha;f time, and then Gaz woke them up in the 4th q. Had complete control of the game from the start of the second q and never looked back. I hope the Saints play tall next week in a night game where te ball is abit slippery and harder to mark. The Blues didn't do us any favors but gee, they looked dreadful. On that performance I'd wonder if they can beat Essendon. Happy to play at Etihad next week, we go ok there
