Our forward line will stretch their defence.
I'm wondering who will look after Rohan - he's suddenly emerged as our x-factor.
At the other end a vote of confidence in AJ minding Kosi in his first finals game.

A couple of days ago Lyon was saying that Gardiner would be the key to countering Mummo. Evidently he's decided Gardiner not match fit. A big out.

Feeling a lot better about this game.

I think LRT is a good "in" for this week because of his extra height. He might get towelled up (but I don't know why he necessarily will - he is a very experienced defender) but if we didn't have him to start with, we would have no-one to really go with Kossie's height. Had Grundy been right to come back in, we might still have needed LRT in the side, which would have meant someone else unfairly missing out.

There's probably not much to choose between Kennelly and Malceski at the moment, given the Eski's groin issues. Sentiment probably prevails in the selection of Kennelly.

Turns out I was right! Rather be wrong though. Ted's got a big game now and our midfielders need to have some degree of superiority to win. A little worried and nervous, but confident in the boys.

I'm not sure who AJ will play on, St Kilda have 2 talls in Riewoldt and Kosi and 2 smalls in Milne and Schneider. There really is no 3rd tall (and they'll go down to 1 tall forward when Kosi rucks) or medium forward for AJ to play on. He might find himself drifting to the forward line because of a lack of appropriate opponents. The midfield matchups worked well for us last time that I think the Swans will hoping to replicate those same contests. McGlynn to tag Montagna and ROK to face off against Goddard in the midfield.

Dawson is the other big change for them since Round 22, but I'd still expect Blake to stick with White. Reid was quiet on the day, well held by Gilbert but I think Dawson might start on young Sammy this time, leaving Gilbert on the Spang. Dempster on Rohan seems a logical pairing and should be an intriguing battle given Seany's good blanketing form and Gaz's electrifying cameos.

Sub will be interesting, usually comes from the 4 man bench (unless late changes like last week) - White, Hannebery, Parker, Bird. We can rule Hanners out from sub duties given his form while White will be needed to relieve the Mummy leaving Parker or Bird. With McGlynn on tagging duties, Bird has been shunted to a defensive forward role and his place in the starting side isn't so secure any more. What kind of impact he can have as a sub is highly debatable.

Ha, how dumb was that? Assuming that LRT was going to play as ruckman forward because that's where he was named.

              Straight from the Horse's mouth:
The coach said he was confident Roberts-Thomson could fill the role left by Grundy?s absence.

?Lewie Roberts-Thomson has played in defence for us for a long time. He is used to playing in that part of the ground so we?re confident he?ll be ok,?? Longmire said.
We're still pretty tall upfront with White, Spang, Reid and occasionally Goodes.

great read, and my thoughts. I think depending on Birds foot it will be parker subbing.

I'm quite happy with selections, and don't worry about LRT he was a key backmen for 5 years, and no doubt has been training down that end this year (and mostly this week) against our big forwards.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

and a proven finals player as well. If LRT is fully fit and "rarin" to go he is at least as good as Reg at CHB or FB.

Usually White is named at FF - interesting he's on the bench.

As Gardiner is named as an emergency does anyone think he might actually play?

It is different for everyone and some people have glandular fever without even noticing symptoms. On the other hand, as an example, my daughter contracted the illness in September last year and is still off work with post-glandular fever fatigue. Terrible disease if it gets a hold.

I hope Reg has a full recovery for next season but, as a fan of LRT (and Reg too I might add), I'm sure he'll do a terrific job at CHB or deeper.

Reg will be missed for sure, but we could scarcely wish for a better replacement to come straight in as cover...
