    Sluggish 3rd quarters

    Reading through the match day thread and a couple of others and noticing the theme of sluggish 3rd quarters I got to thinking why...

    For whatever reason, the coaching panel seems to have decided that the 3rd quarter is when they don't play Goodesy on ball, and we definitely see a correlation in our effectiveness as a result. It seems that every first bounce of the final quarter, Goodesy is in there, winning the clearance, turning the tide. Now if only we could leave him in the middle more in the 3rd quarter, I can't help but think we would see fewer struggles in this critical period of the game.

    If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

      This was also the case with Roos. I think this is when they don't have the best 18 on the ground and the structures can get a little skewiff. In that 3rd quarter we seemed to get sucked up the ground and had no one in our forward line. I noticed that ROK appeared to play deep in defence when we were under the pump in the third quarter.

          I think this was because he seemed to have a run-with role on Goddard a fair bit of the time. Something similar could happen with Hodge; maybe needs tweaking.
          He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

              As far as last night's third quarter went, that was simply a case of St.Kilda being umpired back into the match. Nothing to do with us.

                  After half time StK changed their structure and style of game. It did take us quite a while to adjust, probably too long in reality.
