..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Heard on league teams that Lyon and Harvey are both with ESP. I think in the circumstances to negotiate directly allowed it to remain confidential and allowed ESP to keep face. Very awkward.Comment

Huge news. I though Lyon would leave the Saints and from what I gather, Melbourne is such a toxic environment just now at the board level that no-one is keen to touch them. Didn't see Harvey going or Lyon going over there, though.
Really looking forward to the media analysis and gossip on this one!Comment

Lots of dog acts involved in this move. Freo admin knifed Harvey. Ross left the Saints and his management in the lurch... so surprised. The money is huge, but I really did think Ross loved his playing group and the Saints. He's now left them straddled between premiership window and the rebuild phase without allowing them the time to scope out a new coach. I did respect Lyon, but he's gone about this the wrong way and @@@@@@ over so many people.
I'm so glad our little club has been so stable and honourable over the last decade.Comment

If Lyon was offered a deal he didn't find acceptable, as the Hun reports, then fair enough.
Tough on Harvey, who turned Freo from a laughing stock into real contenders, but the Dockers board did the right thing. Lyon has a better coaching record.
St Kilda can get to the back of the coaching queue. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

I'm with you Al, couldnt happen to a nicer bunch IMHO.
Yep, whether you agree or disagree with the succession plan Roosy put into place, it's so good to not have our team and club dragged through the mud the way of sooooo many other teams this season.Comment

I confess that I don't really see the attraction of Lyon. Yes, he coached the Saints to two GFs but he had a list that contained a good smattering of brilliant players, none of which he had much to do with developing as youngsters. Harvey seemed to be turning Freo around from a head case team to a real contender once the likes of Hill, Fyfe and Morabito get another year or two under their belts. I would much prefer to have Harvey coaching the Swans than Lyon, if they were the two available options.Comment

Lyon had a great list to work with, but he did have the handicap of the Saints culture. A whisker of two premierships before the team imploded was a great effort.
Now I realise how he contrived to get the Dockers job, deceiving not only the Saints but his management team as well, I don't think he's done himself any favours. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Gerard Whateley isn't pulling any punches today:
Lyon leaves a villain
Sample quote: "Lyon's defection from St Kilda to the helm of Fremantle will stand as the low point on a football landscape riddled with dishonesty and treachery."Comment
