Can't believe Josh kennedy polled so badly, the umps are really crap at picking the best for a team on any given day. I have always believed the Umpies should be relieved of this responsibility as it sometimes shows their preference for certain players. The votes should be made by a panel of good judges, ex-coaches would be best. The umpies never seem to notice Josh unless they are giving a free against him because he is so in & under.

I did a bit of junior umpiring many years ago and after every game you had to give a 3-2-1. Invariably it was always the flashy player that you noticed and gave the points to. While the tradition of the Brownlow will never be changed I agree that the umpires aren't the best judges. Just think of the all time greats that haven't won Brownlows. (Ablett, Carey,Matthews etc)

Should be renamed the "Midfielder's B & F". I like to compare it to the Oscars in the American film industry: full of glamour and tradition, but usually not reflective of the very best.In the American film industry, if you want the best, you go to the much more low key New York Film Critics Award. In the AFL you go to the MVP Players Association (Leigh Matthews Trophy) to find out who really is the best player for the season. But the MVP has no glamour and little tradition.
