Toss up between Greg Smith and Cressa. Give it to Creswell as he was a consistently good performer over many seasons.

Billy Gunn for brilliance but Daryn Cresswell for being a great finals player with 244 games and 208 goals over a much longer period gets my vote.

Tony Haenen was a very solid CHB for us during the 60s but Cressa was the best No. 8

              Despite everything, Cressa.

Cresswell for sure but Hollywood Haenan was one of my favorites. I was playing for Port Melbourne Under 19's when Tony played there and I have seen him and his wife (hooley dooley) at several MCG games.

Cressa is the only one I have known in the #8. Yeah that game vs North.. was it maybe a young Motlop who gave away the kick? And Cressa took a dive. Haha. Loved watching him play.

It was the mark over the back one minute to go against Hawthorn in the EF 1996, to kick us into the PF. "Couldn't jump over a jam tin" was the general opinion at the time.

I agree with you Primmy. That was a memorable night. Plugger out, Dunstall did his knee and me sitting in the Daly Messenger stand - never again.

You have to say that the No 8 jumper is a steal for Cresswell.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

I don't know if he was the best, but my favourite out of the ones I have seen was Barry Beecroft.

Bill Gunn was a very good player according to a chap who took us to the footy in the 60's. Frank Johnson who came across from Port Melbourne was a pretty good ruckman.

Good Grief Bas! I was in the Daly Messanger stand too, and it shook everytime anything interesting happened! I cheered when that came down. There was a self important female pseudo fan who kept standing up in front of me and yelling abuse at the "ref" until Ken, my friend Ken, said out loud to me, well I have been coming to the footy for over forty years, and the men in white are called Umps. She finally shut down. Remember that run down the right hand flank by Stuey ending in a goal, when he had that gawdawful stringy hair! That was the night I fell in love with the man.

                              Oh and nice segue Bas....
