Geez there are some good names to have worn this number, Maxfield, Bedford, Browning, Cazaly, Pratt.

Maxfield for me, I never got the chance to see the other guys in the flesh and Stuey was a favourite of mine growing up. Still devastated he missed playing in the premiership.

Cazaly, surely. He has a legendary status that extends beyond football, even beyond sport. Papley was brilliant in his all-too-brief career. Bedford deserves a mention, of course. Goodes is a pretty good name too.

Peter Bedford for mine. If any one had ever seen the man play, then there would be no doubt. Certainly a quality player in a below average team. Silky smooth skills and a delivery second to none. His only weakness...... leaving us and going to Carlscum. Always one of my great idols, and a fantastic guy to boot. Always had time for the young fans.

                Already nominated Pratt with #10.

#11 - first choice is Roy Cazaly (was a superstar of his era), Peter Beford, then Mark Browning, closely followed by Stu Maxfield.

... doesn't have the same ring to it does it??

Agree with Aaardie... It's a bees appendage between Cazaly and Bedford.

My dad said Cazaly was simply outstanding.

No doubt Bedford and Papley were much better than Maxfield and Browning. Bedford and Papley were absolutely brilliant footballers, whereas the the other 2 were very good footballers.

Papley was regarded as a poor track worker who would turn it on in games. In fact, as he told the story to my brother, he later found that he had something like a defective heart valve that left him short of breath at training and in games. He would inexplicably pull up at training, unable to continue. Skilton regarded Max as better than himself. Max had exquisite skills. A beautiful, accurate and long kick and terrific balance. Whereas Skilts worked extremely hard on his skills and fitness, Max was gifted his skills.

I grew up watching the Swannies from the early 60's and Max Papley, one of my favorites was the most talented player yet also one of the laziest players I have seen. Peter Bedford was a gun as well, also one of the best gully fieldsman at cricket I have seen. Mark Browning & Boofa Maxfield were also very good.
Roy Cazaly must have been as Bruce would put it very special.
This is very tough Maxfield has been a big contributer to the Bloods culture which has made us the consistent team we are now.
Toss of the coin between Bedford and Papley maybe it is the Port Melbourne influence but I will go with Bedford.

                              In order:
Pratt: 150 goals in 18 games speaks for itself.
Cazaly: Sounds like he was freakish.
Bedford: In a stronger side he would have won 3 brownlows - sublime skills either foot.Sensational to watch like Magic was.Often kicked a goal before you knew what had happened.
Papley: sublime skills and brilliant reader of the play. Was not as fit as Bedford.
Browning and Maxfield are very hard so separate. Both very good but not in the "absolute freak" category ALL of the others are in.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!
