Laurie Nash...had an ego the size of Tasmania....he was the brother of my father's cousin's wife(beat that you mainlanders). Methinks he and Kirky may have had very little in common.

When I was a kid we had a bloke called Stewie Gull. He lacked the bluster and bull@@@@ of Dermie but when he hit someone they stayed hit.Comment

Troy Luff was an unusual playe r. He was gangly and had an unusual shape. He played CHB & CHF and was a cult hero. A bit like LRT. He could roost a ball a mile long. Sometimes the ball went in a direction not intended. I remember him kicking a balltearer of a goal and when he next lined up we thought it was a shew in but he kicked it 20 metres out on the full. I think he fits the bill as a cult hero and personalityComment

His sister was captain of the Australian Womens basketball team for many years. Robyn Maher nee Gull. She also didn't take any prisoners !!! Their dad Jim also played 21 games for the Swans in 1949-50.Comment

Perhaps if he'd been a little more active in that area we might have won the '45 grandfinal.
Speaking of tough (and by that I mean really tough not just aggression) who was our toughest player?
Barry Round, Greg Smith or Paul Kely?
Or perhaps Darren (watch me hammer my kneecap back in place) CresswellComment

Yep. Essendon's Rugged Ronnie Andrews started a fight with Stewie at Windy Hill one day but Stewie finished it!!! I think Stewie had done some boxing and had even appeared on Channel 7's TV Ringside.Comment

As a kid, Stewie was one of my early favourite players and it was a real thrill to be able to talk to "Mr Gull" at practice matches and outside the coach's house after Saturday morning team meetings (the coach lived just a few doors away). He was always very kind and tolerant to me - which is more than Rotten Ronnie would ever say for him. Ronnie was widely regarded (including by himself) as one of the league's tough men but Stewie put him on his arse so comprehensively that he never had quite the same fearsome aura again. Magnificent stuff - I'm glad others remember it as fondly as I do.My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

I remember it extremely well. Stewie and Andrews were actually running towards the outer wing to another fight and Andrews decided to whack Stewie on the way over. Andrews never made it over to the original fight as Stewie well and truly decked him! Unfortunately, I'm fairly sure Stewie got rubbed out - and all he did was give a thug his come uppance!
If the last post is to be believed, Ronnie recalls the incident too.My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

It says there that Stewie was the only player Andrews was worried about. I don't know why. As I recall, Stewie was a fair player, not dirty at all! I don't remember him being the instigator of any "rough stuff." It's just that if you started something with him, you'd better be able to handle yourself. My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment
