Good on him. Should be on good money and Perth will no doubt help him build a career.

Surprised GWS didn't give him a go for a year, as average a player as I rate him, he does have a dip and is a true local boy. Would have thought he'd have more currency than McDonald for instance.

x2 - Stupid GWS could have milked the 'grandson of Rugby League legend' for another year to a new audience. Plus he would have tought the young 'uns some hardness. Not sure what the hell McDonald has to offer - seems like GWS is some sort of trumped up superannuation scheme for a few pre-retirees.

People on this site keep pushing Mike Pyke's barrow but he will never be as good as what Bevan was and as for Tommy Walsh I just hope he becomes as good as Bevo.

            The Swans delisted Bevan because...???

Walsh and Pyke are about 7 foot taller than Bevan and play a different role so comparisons world seem to be a bit silly. Those of us who watch a lot of footy see Pyke as an excellent 2nd ruck option.

Bevan on the other hand didn't excel in any role this year with the reserves and was rightly delisted. While he tried hard and is a tough bugger you need a bit more to stay on an AFL list especially one with some great youngsters like the Swans.

              Pyke isn't that bad.

Walsh will probably score more goals for us than the opposition, so that would put him ahead of Bevan probably by the end of next season.

Bevo deserved all his 129 games, and was still playing in winning games with the Bloods SIX YEARS after his 2005 premiership medal was hung round his neck. The reality is the coaching staff and club wanted him there because he always has a red hot go.

Bevo always had a crack and gave it his best. Sure he wasn't the most naturally talented player but I wish every one of our players could play with his endeavour.

I'm sorry, but this reminds me of the crazy rantings of our old friend Connelly. Bevo would get injured, play a game in the ressies, get murdered by the blokes from Ainslie or Belconnen, get elevated back to the ones, play like crap week after and week and still get picked. It used to drive me crazy. He had a pile of guts, and gave every thing when he played, but had minimal footy talent or footy brains. Clogged our list for five years and his delisting is five years too late. When I think of some of the promising kids who were ditched while Bevo stayed on the list I still feel angry.

However, with apologies to Blue Mink

Throw in Bev and Nick and anything else we?ve got
Keep it stirring for a footy season or more
And turn out talented gutsy players by the score.

I get goosebumps thinking about how good a player would be who combined the best attributes of those two.

I wish Bevo all the luck and good wishes for his new life in Perth. With all the talent we have on our list a journeyman like Bevo was just excess baggage. He had wonderful endeavour but he just made too many basic errors. He also lacked some skills these other players are gifted with and they can learn to be tough yet he will never pick those skills up. I found him a frustrating player and was a bit puzzled why we persevered with him for so long. There are a couple of others I think are in a similar mould and soon their day will come too.
