When I woke up this morning and saw this headline on facebook I thought my christmas present had come early. I've been having nightmares almost imagining that The Guaranteed Wooden Spooners would steal our Superstar forward in the making. I'm sure they would have made a massive play for him had he not signed up, and well 5 years is just fantastic. It shows that not only the club has a lot of faith in Sam, but that Sam has a lot of faith in the club.
Great day for the Bloods, and lets hope in a couple of years we look back and think this was the day that we resigned the man that helped lead us to Premiership glory. I certainly think he has all the potential in the world to be in the top handful of players in the game, and if he develops as we hope, we have a man to build a forward line around, and really give the flag a shake.
Bring on 2012- so so so so happy right now - made sitting for my flight in Innsbruck airport just a little more bearable!"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

He must have really really wanted to stay a Swans because I can't imagine his manager was keen on him signing for so long for not only the whole current CBA but beyond it! I love it.Comment

I was told today from a good old source (normally doesn't bull@@@@ me, but it is xmas lol) that 2 of the 5 years are quite significant (typical front loading) and then the next three are 250-300, with an average closer to 450K if a few things work out for him. Apparentely some major incentives in terms of goal kicking and other indicators, plus increases if the year 3 CBA review increases the salary cap and if there is a massive increase in the next TV rights as his contract doesn't end until 1 year after the next TV deal is finalised.

We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

From what I understood, the Swans have protected themselves a fair bit in the event (touch wood) that he doesn't develop the way we all believe he will. It's certainly no Plugger "You get paid this even if you are injured" type of contract.Comment

Well lets hope Longmire can deliver a premiership then, cos its going to be a looonng 4 seasons otherwise.
He showed some positive signs and a few negatives as well in his debut season, certainly not enough to indicate at this stage the he deserves to have the longest contract of any coach in the AFL
This is a really poor decision IMOComment
