Swans lock in Reid for five

Another classic from The Age. You would have thought that the Giants t-shirt might have been a bit of a hint...

As long as the other Reid stays at the Giants, we're gonna get this constantly from the media.
The day they got rid of the subbies was the day the papers went even further downhill!

Well that is a nice Christmas present for us ORB!!! We ressiewatchers told you from the start that the kid was a keeper. I hadn't quite factored in a five year extension to our prediction..... Nice to know the management are listening to us. Nice to know we know what we are talking about just quietly!

Spoke to the kid at the CC (like talking to a baby giraffe) about the future and what he and the other kids were working towards (can't help it, they may be young men they are still kids to me) and he and they had a plan already. they are clear in their thinking, know what they are doing and how to go about it along with the awareness that they are the future of the Bloods.

Picture this. Future Captains of the Sydney Swans. Sam Reid and Luke Parker. Visually interesting.

Certainly puts to rest the fears a lot of us had that Sammy would want to join his brother at Collingwood. Great day for the club with both re-signings! Go Bloods!

Excellent- that sounds like a shrewdly structured contract. Like everyone else I was very keen to see him signed up for longer, but was also a bit worried that with the crazy dollars getting thrown around at the moment we may have to pay massive overs. 5 years is, arguably, overs in terms of contract length but it doesn't sound as if it is in terms of actual dollars.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

This is a really poor decision IMO
I thought the Swans made a mistake in the way Horse was appointed, but all the things that used to piss me off about Roos he doesn't seem to do. Made the tough calls, gave the youngsters a go and seems a better match day coach.

Considering the age of the group he has - I think it's a great appointment.

AND Go Sammy! So glad GWS didn't get their damned dirty hands on him.

He doesn't have the longest contract - a two year extension takes him through the next three seasons.

Lyon was signed for four years by the Dockers, while Hird was initially signed for four years by the Bombers (which means his remaining contract is now the same length as Longmire's). Clarkson was also recently re-signed for three years. So Longmire's contract length hardly seems excessive.

I'm pretty much in this boat too. Appears to be much better on match day with reacting to problems on the field.

That's probably one the reason Horse started calling the shots from the box in 2010 with Roos on the bench.

The extension of the contract proves to me that after a lengthy stint as an assistant and a year as head coach he has the respect of the players, respect of the staff and the respect of the board. He and the all the coaches and recruiters have set us up for a bright future so IMO, the extension was well deserved.

The only thing John Longmire has done wrong is not DECIDE on a onfield leader.Should have shown more respect to Adam Goodes a legend of the game.It is an embarrassment that our club thinks we need to have co-captains.
