    Swans underrated again!

According to this, Schneider is better then every player on our last bar Goodes and Mummy.

    Give me a break.

I looked at the headline of the story and moved on. The idea that you can measure a team by individual player stats is laughable.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

I can see what is happening. Apparently you are supposed to have a couple of SCHTARS! and the rest of them are ladies in waiting.

It would seem that we have a Champion Team who work together for the greater good, not a lot of individual schooperschtars. And this is a concept Victorian Media just cannot get their minds around. Poor little people. So ignorant - so sad, so anal.

ROK, Kennedy, Shaw, McVeigh and Smith to start you off.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

With the possible exception of O'Keefe, none of those are forwards...

And this year, neither was O'Keefe. Fact is Schneider would have been our best forward after Goodes this year.

Just a tad harsh Primmy. The Hun was only reporting the rubbish spouted by Champion Data on a slow news week.

I'm an idiot, read it as "non-KPP player". It is almost 6am where I am!

What it does demonstrate is that splitting players into different categories and then comparing them equally is foolish. If Schneider was a better player, he'd be a midfielder. He's not really a specialist small forward, he's just a midfielder with goal smarts who never developed the tank.

It's a good system imo if there was a way to rank teams fairly. However since it rewards high disposal teams whilst punishing low disposal teams, and we are certainly in the latter category. Unless we change gameplan we will never have many "stars".

This was not based on positions, it is based on stats, so whether or not they are a non KPP is irrelevant. I was also amused to see that Bachar Houli is better than every Swans player except Goodes and Mumford.

Oops - it was based on positions. I'm an eejit.

The closest thing we have to Schneider is McGlynn. This year they both kicked 30 goals, while McGlynn had 24 behinds compared to 11, indicating a worse conversion rate but that he was getting to more scoring opportunities. Their goal assists are very similar (Schneider just two ahead of McGlynn). McGlynn had more possessions, significantly more tackles (114 to 79) but was a little behind on marks (98 to 85).

I am certainly not one for using stats to assess performance (other than as a minor aid) but given the article was based on stats, McGlynn's season would appear to be at least the equal of Schneider's, arguably better. I also very much doubt Schneider did any run with roles in the way McGlynn did late in the season, notably on Selwood down at the Cattery.

And no, I wouldn't describe McGlynn as elite either (though he is a bit of a favourite of mine and I think his contributions are underrated by many).

o_O How did I miss McGlynn?!? I had it in my head that Goodes was first on the table, followed by Reid with no one else kicking over 20.

Don't worry. You're not alone. There were numerous articles over the weekend (including on the Swans' own website) which described Reid as being the club's second highest goal kicker last year. Just hope McGlynn isn't feeling too unloved...
