    Coaches 2012

    John Longmire - Senior Coach
John Blakey - Defence Coach (from Forwards Coach). IIRC he was defensive coach when he first came to the club?
    Stuart Dew - Stoppages Coach
    Leigh Tudor - Midfield Coach
Henry Playfair - Forwards Coach (from Reserves Coach)
Jared Crouch - Reserves Coach (from part-time Reserves assistant)
George Stone - Development Coach (was this Maxfield's role last year?)

No word on Maxfield or Barry Mitchell.

I'm sure it makes no difference in the end (Peter Sumich is a midfield coach, after all) but I like that Blakey is now defensive coach having been more of a defender in his playing time, and former forward Playfair as forward coach.

I'm guessing Steve Taubert remains the (unofficial?) ruck coach.

Maxfield was definitely at training last week when I went along to watch. I think they have always refrained from calling him a coach because coaches aren't allowed to be runners.

Yep. He is kind of a "trainer" of individual performances rather than a coach

Spot on... Mentor would be the best way to describe Stewies role.

Good to see we have a new stoppages coach. Hopefully Dew and Tudor can turn around our apalling centre clearance work.

Father joins son at Swans in scouting role

This article also confirms the hiring of Mitchell Snr, as an opposition scout, which I believe is the role Stone used to perform.

I thought that was the pugilist BBBH... and I'm still waiting on one of you video-wise guys to put it on YouTube. If anyone can remember which game it was, I'll try doing it myself.

I don't remember, but "Before the Game" awarded him Tool of the Week for it. It was very funny.

I am more comfortable with the coaching roles for the coming season. I think they make more sense than JB as Forward coach when he essentially was a defender and has so much to give the defense in the way of experience. Henry will make a very good Forward Coach as he is very good at articulating what he wants but be warned we may lose him in a season or so if he decides to go Coaching in the big league. Stewie as Stoppages Coach makes sense too as he was an elite mid. I am very pleased with the revamped line up. I must admit to being a bit feral last year on the coaching panel, as I thought Longmire had lost his mind in the way it was structured.
