I noticed on the news that his house got searched and he got picked up again.

I've been pretty steadfast in my support for anyone with addiction including Cousins. Sorry if the little jibe above was too much...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. In fact, I'd much prefer to see an amusing cartoon or pisstake picture than read some of the rejoicing that has gone on over the past few Cousins related incidents. All good.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

I agree but I think this thread is probably going to be institutionalised here. Poor Ben can't help himself at the moment. If he manages to live through all this he might look back and laugh at what an idiot he has been. But if not we could be talking his obituary.Comment

I must be the only person grown up enough to say "Ben ... enough is enough!".
All the other grown ups are just enablers.

He's a little tosser and always has been and always will be.

The little tosser thinks he's untouchable ... just because he played footy. BFD.
There are hundreds of thousands of people out there, who I'm sure, given the opportunities (plural) given to the little tosser, would have been at least half way to curing their addictions.
Again, the first rule of rehab ... you have to want to give it up.
This little tosser doesn't want to, so "society" is going to make a good, old-fashioned example of him and toss him to gaol.
He's a little hero isn't he? He won't get touched in gaol.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

AnnieH has made her feelings perfectly clear about Ben Cousins.
The more you talk, the more you allow her to go on.
I have made a point to just agree to disagree with her and I think we should all move on.
It is sad when people are addicted to things, but you really can't lead a horse to water and make it drink.
I think AnnieH feels that Ben Cousins is a poor little rich boy. But I think he may already have some pre-existing conditions that made him more susceptible to addiction.
I once worked with a young fella from the country who came to the big smoke and bright lights. He got caught up in the scene, became very popular, took a whole load of drugs and ended up in hospital a few times. As friends we did our best to look after him, told him what not to do and that he really needs ambulance cover. It took him a few years and moving back home for things to settle down.
I think if he had a lot more resources, he may or may not still be in that situation. It's hard to tell. But seriously.... until you've walked a mile in Ben Cousins' shows, please reserve your judgement. I am not religious, but I agree with the saying "let he who hath not sinned, cast the first stone"Comment

I have been smoking cannabis for 20 years now.
I know what addiction is and have been on some downward spirals..and giving up an addiction is still is one of if not the hardest things to do. The addiction can be controlled but its the mind you need to convince that its time to give up.
And once you have that buzz, that feeling of being in a different place to others and that feeling of being comfotably stoned then you don't want to leave. I know thats how i feel.
But it needs to be up to the individual to want to quit. Intervention and all that works for people with short term addictions but with people with long term addictions it actually works against those wanting/doing the help.
But the constant struggles to try and live a clean life is the worst aspect. Everyday you wake up and tell yourself that today is the day where you give up and then you dabble in the smoke and then you fight with yourself some more because of the guilt factor and once sobered you do all again. A vicious cycle and i can just imagine what Ben is going through.
Also having an addictive personality like Ben has makes it hard. That was one of the main issues for me..addictive personality.Comment
