    Tommy Walsh

Here is a copy of a small article on Walsh in Inside Football.

Lyon to cop more bullets if Tommy turns out a gun.

Seeing him train reinforces Keenan's view a little.
I have no prob with his height, but he seems a typical Irish recruit with his kicking..but don't forget Tadgh got the knack beautifully eventually. Hopefully this kid will keep improving it as well.
It's a big step from VFL to A grade...the ease with which Teddy and a couple of defenders has beaten him in one outs makes me think he has a way to go.

I saw a fair bit of him last year as well and on that form there is no way we should have given up 2 draft picks. Unless he has improved heaps over summer he would be a long way behind Spangher, White, Seaby & even Pyke as a forward option.

I know there are differences to top flight AFL but geez he looked good in the International Rules series at the end of last year. I try not to get too excited by new recruits but this guy looks like he has great athleticism and potential. If he has been on another team's list for a couple of years, we wouldn't have recruited him so aggressively to play him in the NEAFL. I think he'll get a goodly amount of game time this year and I wouldn't expect miracles, but hopefully he can develop nicely.

He'll also be nice and cheap on Dream Team and will most likely be in my side there this year.

Tommy looks a likely lad and he will develop in time. The bigger blokes take a little longer. Must be something about their brain developing slower cos it has a lot more territory to cover than little bloke But he will get there and I think be a very good third tall for us both up and back.

Only saw Tommy in the Int Rules so it's hard for me to comment on his AFL prospects. However our recruiters don't make too many clangers so I'll put my faith in them.

Off-topic, but has to be mentioned, is Crackers' praise in that column for our seamless coaching succession. It worked so well that it has barely been commented on.

Contrast that with the number of coaches who were axed last year and the amusingly botched Collingwood coaching handover. Just one more sign of how well the Swans are run.

Its because they read R&W, we have been assisting with the coaching for years.

Al, I have great faith in our recruiters as well, and hope they've kicked another goal.
I was impressed by Tommy's Int Rules game..he was awesome, but the best man on ground that night was TK....and his AFL days were pretty much long gone.
Maybe the form from that night is questionable?
Regardless, Tommy has my total support...as does the whole operation at Moore Park.

I don't think anyone really asked Mick about the Collingwood transition until it was announced. I remember the first interview he had about it after Eddie put the notion to the press. He said basically it was the first he had heard about it. It was then just an Eddie notion but obviously gained momentum. Collingwood love their hero players the same as Port Adelaide. but neither has won a string of Premierships in the modern era and only one ex-star has coached a premiership for either team in this era. Shaw and Weideman were both flops as coaches even though they were both premiership captains.
Russell Ebert was a star for Port but a flop as a coach. The only ex-player to coach Port to a premiership is Mark Williams and he played in the AFL with both the Pies & Bears before going back. Interestingly his father Foster Williams is a Port (SANFL) hero who Port stole from West Adelaide. John Cahill was the last Port (SANFL) star to coach a premiership in the 1980's making it 10 for him. He is the only one in the SANFL in the modern era. But the Port attitude came from a bloke from West Adelaide called Foster Williams.

On Tommy which this is about I can see him playing forward when needed then back at need. He is a pretty mobile big man and I see him being used for his mobility. I can see a day when the coach will say if Buddy comes any near the centre of the ground take him Tommy! That is an advantage of being mobile and big
