Apology to Adrian Anderson and AFL Integrity team
The Age published three articles in December 2011 that reported on the AFL investigation into the background surrounding the recruitment of Kieren Jack by Sydney Football Club. The Age accepts that Mr Adrian Anderson and the AFL Integrity team acted with integrity in the matter of Kieren Jack's nomination for the 2005 rookie draft and in its subsequent investigation of the matter. The Age and Tim Lane apologise to Mr Adrian Anderson and his team for suggesting otherwise.

I just don't get why he pursued this line. It may be a bugbear he has against Sydney, after all I think Tim was anti any concessions for Sydney or Brisbane to develop their area. I believe he was of the opinion they should do that on the same money as every other club . Unfortunately that doesn't take into account developing a in a hostile market. But in saying that he is generally very even handed up to the point of talking about Carlton and then forget it. He almost barracks when he is calling Carlton, always has even on the ABC. He is a bit like Huddo with Geelong.
Roy Masters had a hand in this too don't forget that. Roy is very Anti AFL, always has been and I think he would always be happy to stir the pot. If Roy thinks he can get mileage from an incident for NRL of course he is going to run with it. What was actually said is a matter of conjecture a sort of 'he said, I said' scenario.Comment

Pretty poor form to publish an apology at the bottom of another story, having published and then deleted the apology under its own link. Can't imagine the AFL is impressed by that.
Poor journalism only Lane. The only 'fact' was that Jack supposedly got his papers in late. Even if it were true there was no evidence that the AFL manipulated the situation in order to give him a green light onto an AFL list. Lane just made that up.
In fact, his whole scenario about the AFL wanting to use a rookie-listed player as an advertisement for the game was ridiculous. I hope the Age sacks him if it hasn't already.

I agree with all of the sentiments expressed in this thread, however what if there was another side to it?
What if there was a transgression somewhere (no matter how minor) and Lane was on to it (where there is smoke there is fire). Couldnt it also be argued in the spirit of the true conspiracy theory, that maybe the AFL put pressure on The Age to bury it or they may lose some of their AFL privileges?
Just a thought...Comment
