    The 2012 injury thread

Some news on Armstrong from the club site.

Theoretically he's our most important new recruit, having been brought in to replace Tadhg. But he's had an ITB (I have no idea either) and a quad and is only just now starting to kick the footy.

No date on when he'll be ready to play.

Thanks RnR. My medical knowledge pretty much comes from Dem Bones.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Ewww don't much like the sound of any of them. Thx to Wiki.......

ITBS is one of the leading causes of lateral knee pain in runners. The iliotibial band is a superficial thickening of tissue on the outside of the thigh, extending from the outside of the pelvis, over the hip and knee, and inserting just below the knee. The band is crucial to stabilizing the knee during running, moving from behind the femur to the front while walking. The continual rubbing of the band over the lateral femoral epicondyle, combined with the repeated flexion and extension of the knee during running may cause the area to become inflamed.

          Hope that clears it up.

            O'keefe out with a bruised knee...they're talking 3 to 6 weeks.
            Let's hope it's the lesser.
Would love to see him play more on the half forward line this season.

              Bad luck ROK.
At least the season is still three weeks away, and our second game is five weeks away, so plenty of time.

Inter Testicular Bruising ... the term Inter would seem indicate the cause being one of them banging against the other with some force. Possibly not an on-field injury?? I concur with you diagnosis, just for the fun of it.

True. It's certainly not as bad as it could be and we're likely to see the likes of Luke Parker spend more time in the middle, which can only be a good thing.

I think our injury list is okay at this stage, I'm only really worried about Tom Mitchell. Anybody have an idea on his injury and the amount of time his lay off is?

Why would we play Ryano injured. We have very good depth this year and any injured player should not be played until he can prove his fitness. I fail to see the benefit of playing injured players at any time, not to mention the danger of losing the player permanently. Playing injured players is a throw back to the bad old Eade days where Micky O played with one arm.

Alex Brown added to the long-term injury list this week. Mentioned in passing in this story: http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/n...2/default.aspx

                        Anyone know why?

ROK played almost the entire 2010 season with groin issues that hampered him.

Neil Cordy just tweeted: Sydney Swans ? Placed Alex Brown on the long-term injury list. Opens way for Harry Cunningham to be promoted from rookie list.
